From Scandal's fall premiere date to a crazy casting call for Straight Outta Compton to #standingwithJada and more, here's what we're talking about at the top of the week of 7/21.What's up essence? I certainly missed you and I am so happy that you returned this week for seven things we're talking about. I'm gonna jump right in with number one. Gladiators! It is that time of year again scandals season four premier has been announced for thursday september twenty fifth in case you've forgotten when we last saw miss Oliva pope she was on a one way plane to a new life with that hazel eyed hottie jake at her side fitz wont four more years as president though we saw that one coming. Huck angrily broke things off with Quinn, and showed up at the door of his first wife, and their son. Momma Pope found herself in the hole. Carrison was given the duces. And poppa Pope was back wrecking shop, which is where he belongs. Doesn't it make you feel all warm and fuzzy? Next up, everyone's favorite hot topic lady, Miss Wendy Williams, celebrated her 50th birthday with a bang, as icon Chaka Khan performed two of her biggest hits on the daytime diva's birthday show. Plus, Wendy had a huge announcement. She's now going to be the executive producer or Lifetime Network's bio pic on Aaliyah, and there's more. She also announced that up and coming actress 23 year old Alexandra Shipp will play the pop princess. Recently Zendaya Coleman released a video response if you will, just further reiterating that she did not drop out of the project because of negative social media pressure. I don't know if we believe that. And it was due to poor production value with Lifetime, music rights etc... Either way, now that Wendy is at the wheel you know. We are going to get it all on the nitty gritty of this story. Like the juicy details. Everything that we've always wondered. As always Essence, I will keep you in the loop. And Wendy we wish you a big birthday how ya doin'? Keeping it in the TV lane. Our next topic is the talented Keke Palmer who made TV history as the youngest host to hit daytime with her show Just Keke. Keke wants the show to serve as a voice for her generation. Congratulations Keke and we will definitely be watching. In beauty news, Neil Long is the new face for Elizabeth Taylor's White Diamonds, making her the first person, number one, to front the fragrance other than the classic Hollywood actress. Launched 20 years ago, White Diamonds is one of the top selling fragrances on the market with more than a million dollars in sales. Long will help introduce a new product, White Diamonds Luster by Elizabeth Taylor. Congratulations, Nia. And we are definitely rooting for you. Next up in the news. We are urging you to get involved, Essence. As many of you know, images of 16-year-old Jada's rape went viral on social media as her peers mocked her unconscious body with #jadapose. An act of cyber-bullying that is. Is horrific. People around the world have been shocked and stunned and now are getting involved. There's been an outpouring of public support for Jada. Who has taken control of the story and refused to let the online harassment silence her. Jada, who points out, there's no point in hiding. Because everyone has already seen the images of her online has not let the disgusting out pouring of jokes silence here. She has now started the movement #ISTANDWITHJADA encouraging all to take a stand. Her alleged attackers have not yet been found. We urge you Essence. Spread some positivity show some support and get involved. The makers of NWA' s forth coming biopic straight out of Compton have been accused of racism. After issuing a casting call that appears to rate potential applicants by their skin color. There's B girls these are the fine girls long hair really nice bodies. The Beyoncé types if you will as described. The C girls these are African American girls medium to light skinned with a weave. The D Girls. These are African American girls, poor, I don't know what that word choice is about, and not in good shape. Enough medium to dark skin toned. So of course, as you can imagine, this casting notice has caused quite a bit of controversy. And since then, the casting agency, as well as Universal Pictures, have issued an apology and a retraction. They mentioned, oh. This wasn't really meant to do anything to the community, or mean anything. It's just a misinterpretation of the casting categories. Really? Let us know what you think at Essence Mag. Beyoncé will have a fashion exhibit at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The exhibit will feature the singer's iconic black leotard, worn during the Single Ladies music video. Along with the skirt and jacket from her 2013 Super Bowl performance. This is huge. considering queen B won't be eligible for Rock N Roll hall of fame induction until the year 2022 as a Destiny's Child member. or 2027 as a solar artist. Beyoncé's items are part of a larger exhibit launched by the Rock N Roll hall of fame. That aims to bridge the gap between the past and the present musicale icons. Themed, right here right now. The exhibit also features items from the Black Keys, Bruno Mars, Rihanna and Lady GaGa. Well, there you have it. That wraps up this weeks 7 things we're talking about. I'm Dana Johnson and I'll see you back here at essence.com next week.
