S.C. Democrat: Confederate Flag Must Come Down

South Carolina Democrat Mullins McLeod believes that the Confederate flag must be removed from the State Capitol building if the state is to attract more jobs.

According to South Carolina's The State, McLeod, a Charleston-based attorney who is running for governor, released a plan on Thursday, November 19th to create jobs and reopened the age-old debate about the flag.

"We are not going to compete in a 21st century economy by prolonging 19th century arguments," McLeod wrote in a prepared statement. "It is time for us to send a clear and unambiguous signal to the rest of the country, and the entire world, that South Carolina is better than what people see on the news, and that we are ready to make progress.

"By agreeing to move past this old argument once and for all, we will be telling the world that South Carolina is ready to lead again."

Fellow Democratic contender, Sen. Vincent Sheheen, said he too has believed for the past decade the flag should come down.

I agree as a resident of SC that flag coming down is long overdue; however, neither of these gentlemen will gain much support on their stance due to the bigotry of many of our law makers in the state. It's unfortunate that residents suffer economically because of the hatred in the hearts of man; basic intelligence would allow them to see whites, Hispanics, Asians and blacks are suffering economically in the state.

For South Carolinians to continue to accept such hatred (particularly African Americans) knowing what the flag means and stands for is beyond me. I have no idea how blacks can even want to work in that state, send their kids to school there, or worship there. Black people please get with the program in the state of SC and emerge into the 21st century.

It just does not make any sense to make a big deal out of the situation, when all you have to do is take the flag down. That's just my opinion.

Well why are you talking then? Just take it down if you've been discussing that you're more progressive than that flag. Get one of the maintenance people to take it down. Why do people create mountains out of molehills.

It's about time to bury that flag. What is the issue with them wanting to hold on to it after all these years. It don't make sense.

Now watch they blame President Obama for this.
