Go Inside Colonel Allensworth State Historic Park, the First Town Founded and Governed by Black People

In case you haven’t heard of Allensworth, California—and you likely haven’t—the site, which is a now a state park, was once California’s first town founded, funded and governed by Black people. Created in 1908, Allensworth came to be despite and because of America’s post-Reconstruction racism and bigotry.
