This morning, Diane Sawyer interviewed a teary eyed Rihanna. Of course, we couldn’t help but think about our precious young sisters who look up to this pop princess. So we hit streets of New York City to find out what they thought of her comments. You will be surprised at what some said.

“As a young girl, I admire her for leaving him because I thought she was going to stay. She did something we didn’t expect because that’s not only teaching her a lesson, it’s teaching us all a lesson. We look up to her. Even though people say things about her at the end of the day, we love Rihanna.”

“She did what she had to do and I think it was a good choice for her. Not saying that he is a bad person but she is an idol to a lot of young girls. I mean, I have a young sister and she loves Rihanna too and I wouldn’t want her growing up thinking it’s okay to date a guy that fights you.”

“I commend Rihanna for saying one of the reasons why she left Chris was because she realized she is a role model. But at the same time she had all that opportunity to come out and speak about the situation. Why did she chose to come out now, you know? I mean she is kind of late.”

“She had good reasons for leaving him but I don’t know why she is saying something now. Why not speak out in February when it happened. But no one really knows the whole story so I don’t think the situation is that big now. It happened so long ago.”

“I commend Rihanna for realizing that younger girls do look up to her and realizing that so many women do go back to abusive partners and some of them never make it out alive. I think it can give so many young people who are in these types of relationships hope that they can get out.
