Rowell’s memoir is a rousing tribute to all of the amazing women who cared for her when her birth mother could not. “I was never meant to be raised by one mother, but many,” she said about the novel.
Here, Rowell showcases her memoir “The Women Who Raised Me” at a Barnes and Noble in Clifton, New Jersey. The memoir has received several accolades, including The African American Literary Award. She also released a documentary, “The Mentor” in conjunction with the release of her memoir.

Her perfect posture can be attributed to her extensive dance background, which she began at the age of eight when she studied at the Cambridge School of Ballet.
