“Sidwell has a pretty diverse population. When I was younger there was a closeness among the Black students,” she says.
Damali Ayo has organized Black alumni of Sidwell Friends School to rally behind and offer support for President and First Lady Obama’s daughters as they settle into the school.
“Sasha and Malia’s success is everyone’s success,” she says.
Students at Sidwell Friends perform “Music Man” in 1983. The school is known for being the most liberal of private schools in Washington, D.C.

“Sidwell turns out some really cool people and it’s a place where I learned to discover new things about myself,” she says. “I hope Sasha and Malia will be able to do the same.”
