Day 8 marked the final day of this world wind week. It had been a fabulous week of shows, meeting great people and being featured on New York Times, NY Mag, Italian Vogue and more! So honored! I really enjoyed sticking to a theme this week of African prints and turbans. It was cool to see how it changed from day to day. On the last day, I went to Stephen Burrows show. It was full of classic silhouettes and innovative prints. He is such an iconic designer. Afterwards, I had a fun dinner with Ty Hunter. Always a great time! Although NYFW is over, there is still lots to enjoy with London Fashion Week in full swing. And of course, lots to enjoy here on Daily Style Chronicles and on my personal blog, joylovesfashion.com.

It was Day 7 and I needed some sparkle in my life The perfect solution: My jeweled vintage jacket and sequined dress. The only thing better than sparkle, is more sparkle! This turban was a great compliment and my clutch acted as the accent. How much fun are my “Monkey” Mercura glasses?! Fab! Today’s shows: Jeremy Scott, J. Mendel and Vivienne Tam. Jeremy tripped us out with psychedelic colors and prints. After a quick cab ride with Ty Hunter, we arrived to J. Mendel and were wowed with elegant beaded gowns and chic separates. Vivienne (aka the print master) showcased metallic pants and gorgeous embroidery. Fav of the day? Vivienne!

On Day 6 I turned Lincoln Center into a fashion war zone with my vintage army jacket. I love pairing it with this animal print turban. My Jewel by Lisa clutch (fashion week staple) added the necessary pop of color. These Aquatalia boots are 60s inspired and so chic and comfortable, perfect for running around at fashion week! This week so far I have been interviewed by NY Post, NY Times, Reuters and more! What an honor! Stay tuned for all of my fashion week features on my other blog: joylovesfashion.com. Today, I attended the Marc by Marc Jacobs show today and it is in the strong running as one of my favorites this season. The women’s voluminous skirts paired with combat boots and conductor hats were to die! The men rocked the runway in statement trenches while carrying large red bags. Marc, you have done it yet again. It was fun and fabulous. My kind of show!

This entire look centered around the key piece, my cool vintage hat. This was a unanimous favorite at the tents, on the street and even in the subways! I loved wearing it. I am keeping consistent with a hat/turban theme throughout fashion week, which I’ve never done before. I thought it would be great to see how it plays out with each look. So far, it has been fabulous and quite fitting since hats and turbans are one of my trademarks. As for shows, I attended Theysken’s Theory, Reem Acra, Betsey Johnson and Leather Japan. Theory had a collection of wardrobe staples, Reem was all about beautiful frocks, Betsey wowed us with her showmanship (as always!) and pink fur stoles, and Leather Japan showed unique leather good from various Japanese designers. Fab day!

Day 4 was all about African fabric and animal prints. Being Nigerian, I’ve been influenced by ankara fabric my entire life. It is so beautiful, lively and goes perfectly with my personality As you’ve probably guessed, my favorite African designer to wear is Jewel by Lisa. Her vibrant colors and bead work are exquisite. I will be interviewing Lisa soon for a piece I am writing for Heritage1960, so excited! Today, I am wearing a top from her line and carrying her handmade beaded clutch. I love mixing African and animal prints. The animal print acts as a neutral, allowing the ankara to shine. I attended Tracy Reese and Zac Posen. Tracy was fun and vibrant. I especially loved her low colorblocked wedges. Zac Posen totally blew me away! So much beauty in one show. He is a genius. In between shows, I caught dinner with stylists Ty Hunter and Wayman Deon. It’s so much fun to catch up with friends during fashion week!
Vintage Jordache coat. Jewel by Lisa top and clutch. H&M pants & scarf. Urban Outfitters boots. Mercura sunglasses. African necklaces.
Day 3 and I was looking forward to all of the fashion and inspiration. Today’s look was all about the feathers! This piece is by designer Avnah. It is so much fun and such a statement. And you know I love my statements. I ventured off to Herve Leger, Sally LaPointe and L.A.M.B. Herve took us horseback riding with leather harnesses on their trademark bandage dresses. Sally was all about the monochromatic hues and fierce peplum skirts and tops. L.A.M.B. set it off with vibrant yellow and black patterns. In between shows I chatted with Ty Hunter (Beyonce’s stylist), Walter Green of Profiles Magazine and stylist Phillip Bloch. It was an incredibly sad moment when the whole world found out about Whitney Houston’s passing. Such a shock. Whitney, your music will live on and on.
Feather piece by Avnah, Anne Taylor turtleneck, Forever 21 skirt, Aquatalia boots, African headwrap, Jewel by Lisa clutch, and Mercura heart-shaped glasses.
Day 2 and the Fashion Week fun continues! I wore a gorgeous beaded top by Jewel by Lisa and loads of ethnic jewelry. This orange skirt served as the essential pop of color. My hat and glasses were a big hit for bloggers and photographers. The hat is actually a sailor hat — I popped up the center to change the shape. My glasses are by Mercura. They have the best eyewear and are so creative!! I attended Rebecca Taylor, Doo.Ri and Nicole Mller. I loved Rebecca’s “casual chic city girl.” Doo.Ri showed her trademark draping and also leather detailed turtlenecks. Nicole took us back to the ’60s with her bell sleeves and fringe. Fab all around!
Jewel by Lisa top, H&M jacket, skirt, scarf & stole, Matisse boots, Mercura sunglasses, vintage hat and bag.
It was an exciting Day 1 of NYFW Autumn 2012. I am always full of nervous excitement on the first day. The tents are full of renewed energy and buzzing with showgoers. I wore a gorgeous Jewel by Lisa dress. She is one of my favorite designers and also Nigerian! I love wearing her pieces. The dress has a fun pattern of African women and an amazing cape detail. I attended shows by BCBG, HONOR and red carpet fave Tadashi Shoji. I was also photographed by several photographers and bloggers and interviewed by TV stations. I will be sure to share all of these with you on joylovesfashion.com! Looking forward to tomorrow.
Jewel by Lisa dress, Aquatalia boots, Vintage 1970s head-wrap and Nigerian bangles.
Last night, I attended the annual Red Dress show, presented by the Heart Truth Foundation. It’s a great cause that focuses on spreading knowledge to women about heart disease. This was my second year attending and I was excited to see which celebrities would be ripping the runway. I spotted actress Phylicia Rashad — looking gorgeous — across from me in the front row. My picks for best-dressed of the night: actresses Minka Kelly and Giselle Blondet in to-die-for gowns by DVF and Oscar de la Renta, respectively. Legendary singer Chaka Khan stole the show wearing a design by Project Runway alum Chris March; she walked to her hit song “I’m Every Woman.” Other notable designers were Jason Wu, Marc Bouwer and Alberta Ferretti. Can’t wait till next year’s show!
