The overall energy of the people at the 2014 festival was amazing. Everywhere I looked I saw beautiful brown ladies enjoying themselves. It was a cool vibe and the backdrop of New Orleans made the days even sweeter. This year was my first year attending, and one thing is for certain: I will be back. Here are my favorite moments!
I was fortunate enough to see Janelle Monae and Jill Scott perform. Janelle, clad in her black and white uniform danced across the stage and sang what seemed to be effortlessly. During one of Janelle's songs, a small section of hair fell from the front of her classic up 'do but she was unfazed. She is a true Electric Lady. Jill Scott wore a bone straight wig with Chinese bangs as she walked on the stage in all her 70's glory. As she closed the show, Jill transformed her voice into that of an opera songstress.

In the hair booth at the Convention Center, I was able to chat with Hair and Beauty editor Deena Campbell and answer questions from the attendees. I loved how my subscribers came to say hi; It was really great being able to meet the women and girls I make videos for. I really felt connected.

I admit it, I'm a foodie. When I saw all of the food choices in the Convention Center I knew my taste buds were going to be happier than Pharrell. The vendors sold everything from soul food to Cajun cuisine. I went the Cajun route since we were in ‘Nawlins and the city overflows with the best seafood I ever tasted. I wanted something I could eat quickly so I chose a shrimp taco. There was life in every bite.

I had quite a few moments where I thought "this is cool" and "I'm not ready to leave." Essence Fest is an experience. This was my first year attending but it definitely won't be my last.
