Actress Joy Bryant and stuntman Dave Pope wed on June 28, 2008, during an intimate evening ceremony in The Hamptons. The screen sweethearts met on the set of “Welcome Home, Roscoe Jenkins” and their hearts have been inseparable ever since. The couple prepares to celebrate their first wedding anniversary and we ask that you join us as we walk down memory lane and reminisce on their big day.
Joy and Dave opted not to have a large bridal party. Joy asked her good friend and ESSENCE.com Managing Editor Emil Wilbekin (pictured) to walk her down the aisle and he happily obliged. Another good friend Steve served as her officiant.
Joy and Dave cut a rug during their wedding reception. The couple changed clothes after the ceremony, Joy into another Missoni dress, so that they could be even more comfortable while they danced the night away.
Guest and Hollywood honcho Harvey Weinstein (“Project Runway”, “Good Will Hunting”) admires the beautiful bride’s stylish gown. In lieu of gifts, Joy and Dave asked their guests to make donations to her father-in-law’s charity organization for sick children, Pope’s Kids Place.
The loving couple chose “A Woman, A Lover, A Friend” by Otis Redding as their musical selection for the first dance. Later on in the evening guests jammed to the likes of Al Green, Etta James, Frank Sinatra and Nat King Cole.
The Long Island, New York, private residence of a friend was secured just a week and a half before the wedding. It provided the perfect ambiance for the easy romantic vibe Joy and Dave were searching for to tie the knot.
The dedicated pair have had to endure their share of challenges since they tied the knot last June. Just two days following the wedding, Dave was off to Morocco to shoot a movie and Joy to Vancouver for a film project for three consecutive months. But the committed couple doesn’t let the distance get in the way of their marriage.
“When you’re in it you make it happen,” says Joy.
Please wish the couple a very Happy First Wedding Anniversary!
