Mariah Carey, Stevie Wonder, Maya Angelou, and Spike Lee were among the honorees at last night’s taping at Warner Theatre in Washington, D.C. Common, Jennifer Hudson, Aretha Franklin, Queen Latifah, Willow Smith, and Jill Scott, were also on hand to salute the honorees.
The night was made extra special with a first-time appearance by First Lady Michelle Obama who was in attendance to introduce poet Maya Angelou.
