Bruno Mars honored the late British soul singer’s memory with a spirited performance of “Valerie,” from her debut album.
#9: Jessie J. Rocks the House
British singer Jessie J. was part of the VMAs house band and dare we say, besides Beyonce and Adele, she provided some of the best vocal stylings of the night.
#8: We Watched the Throne
Kanye and Jay-Z brought their A-game to their debut televised performance as The Throne. The duo lit up the stage (literally) with a memorable performance of their first single, “Otis.”
#7: Nicki's Mirage
Nicki Minaj won for Best Hip-Hop Video, but it was her Lady Gaga-esque outfit that had everyone gagging. The colorful Harajuku Barbie inspired outfit featured a shiny purple bodice, stuffed tail and a Japanese face mask.
#6: Adele Brings the Artistry
Adele’s simple performance gave us a chance to really experience the beauty of her voice. There were no pyrotechnics or flashy dancers, just Adele and a piano. A classy moment we’ll always remember.
#5: Humble Kanye Appears
The last two VMAs haven’t shown Kanye West in the best light — remember Taylor Swift in 2009? But this year, a much more humble man appeared to accept an award with Katy Perry for Best Collaboration. Kanye even thanked MTV for having the courage to invite him back to the awards show.
#4: Chris Brown Dazzles
Love him or hate him, Chris Brown gave one of the more memorable 2011 VMA performances thanks to some frantic dance moves and invisible wires that hoisted him over the crowd. Think “Matrix” meets Cirque du Soleil.
#3: Jay-Z's a Proud Dad-to-Be
Proud papa Jay-Z was clearly excited watching his wife showing off her baby bump. Kanye West was among the thousands who were just excited as Jay.
#2: Beyonce Shows Off Her Baby Bump
Beyonce ended a joyful performance of ‘Love on Top by dropping her mic and rubbing her growing baby bump. By far, the night’s most adorable moment.
#1: The Big News!
Beyonce stole the show even before it began when she announced she and Jay-Z were expecting a child.
