Bethann Hardison On The State Of The Black Model

When New York Fashion Week ended on February 19th, the style set immediately began debating whether or not it was a positive season for Black models. The percentage of models of color on the catwalks was uncomfortably low (in fact, numbers were lower than last season), but Fall 2010 wasn't the bleak "blackout" of seasons past. Here, we asked Bethann Hardison--the legendary model, muse, agent and veritable fashion griot--for her take on the state of Black model.

Gabby's Red Carpet Presence Sparks Plus-Size Debate

As we watch Precious actress Gabourey Sidibe hit the red carpet with just as much diva swagger and confidence as her more model-esque co-star, Paula Patton, we can't help but think that her presence has added another layer to the debate about plus-sized women and the fashion industry.
