Debbi McCloud, 43, of Locust Grove, Georgia
Information technology project manager
By day: TV content producer
Getting started: A lover of clothes and bargains, Debbi McCloud was reading an article about
Weekenders, a direct-selling company that offered practical everyday
fashions through house parties. She contacted the firm via its Web site,
Weekenders.com, for an in-home presentation from a fashion coordinator.
McCloud was ready to buy until the coordinator dropped a hint: There was a
large discount available if she became a coordinator. SOLD!
The payoff: There is no sales quota, so you can sell as much or as little as you want.
Typically, she says, her Saturday presentations have four to six guests, and
she commissions 40 percent of the sales.
How you can do it: Visit Weekenders.com to sign up. The sample kit with clothing packs,
catalogs, trend reports and fabric swatches will get you started, and your
listing on the site will help you get the word out. And network at community
events.
