Sean Diddy Combs and Kim Porter in happier times.

(Updated Dec. 22, 2006) The stork made two deliveries to hip-hop impresario Sean "Diddy" Combs and his long-time girlfriend Kim Porter. Porter, 36, delivered healthy twin baby girls at Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York City early Thursday morning, sources close to the family told ESSENCE exclusively.
D'Lila Star Combs was born first at 7:56 a.m. and weighed in at 5 lbs. and two minutes later Jessie James Combs was born and weighed in at 5 lbs., 4 oz., according to Combs's publicist Robert Zimmerman, of Dan Klores Communications. The long-awaited twins were named in honor of two people who had an enormous influence on Combs and Porter's lives. D'Lila Star Combs is named after Kim's grandmother, Lila Star, and Jessie James Combs, is named after Sean's grandmother, Jessie Smalls.
Combs's mother, Janice Combs, also got a special tribute in that her granddaughters were born on her birthday.
Combs, who was in Toronto, Canada filming A Raisin in the Sun, was determined he would not miss his early Christmas gifts when it came time for the twins to be born. He had a plane waiting on standby to get him back to New York and "made it just in the nick of time for the delivery," according to Zimmerman.
"It was such a beautiful thing being right there with Kim throughout the deliveries and watching my daughters being born," Combs told a source close to the family.
Having daughters has already proven to be a life-changing experience for Combs, who has a son, Christian, with Porter and a son, Justin, from a previous relationship with stylist Misa Hylton-Brim. (Porter has a son, Quincy, from a previous relationship with singer Al B. Sure.)
"I feel so suddenly protective having girls. When my boys were babies and they'd cry, I'd be like 'the women will handle it.' I'd just keep doing whatever I was doing, like sipping champagne with the fellas. Now, I hear even the beginning of a cry from my girls and I'm right there checking and wanting to make sure they're okay," Combs said. "People told me that I'd feel different about daughters. I didn't understand that until now. This is still day one and I can tell you this: Having my girls has changed my life."
Wish the new parents and their family well on our boards below.
