I am reading "Satan, I'm taking my health" by Dr.Jawanza Kunjufu a great book about our health as black

people and how we should eat in order to live a long life.

I am a Poet in my spare time I love to read. GOD Don't Like Ugly was a good book. Also, Eric Jerome Dickey's book Naughty or Nice whom I dedicated a poem to "A Man Of Distinction".Eric,JOnathan Luckett,Sarah Davenport and Victoria Murray "Temptation" another good book. These authors I correspond with they inspired me to turn my play "No Tomorrow" into a novel.I want to thank them for keeping the torch lit.

I read the book Redemption Song by Bernice Berry.

It is deep, meaningful and lush. There is love, anguish and emotion.

Reading the story gave me pause, We just don't realize sometimes just how blessed we are and how far we've come.

-Ketty Elinette Honore

I just finished Blinded by a new author, KaShamba Williams. It was an awesome read! It's fairly new, I'm not sure how the stores rate books as best sellers but this is surely a best seller. I purchased it from Truth bookstore in Detroit. I'm sure thebook is in most stores now.

-Kim

I have just finished reading The Perfect Plan by James Johnson. It's currently not available in regular retail stores. But you can purchase it on Amazon.com or FamilyBondPublications.com. I am in love with the characters and the development of the story. This is a MUST read. It's like being right there while everything is going on. Just when you think you know what's going to happen, it doesn't. I'm totally blown away!

I think the book B-More Careful was one of the top 5 books I've read so faaar, good enough to try to write a research paper on it for english class (that and Sista Souljah's THE COLDEST WINTER EVER) The only problem I am running into is the fact that there is not much cretible sources for me to find information and cretics about the book. I really want to write this paper, and I would hate to have to change my topic to another one, so if anyone out there knows anywhere where I can find some good recources to use, you can e-m

If you want to learn how to love and respect your magnificent heritage more as an African-American, these are excellent reads. And, they are books you will want to read again, and again.

For Black History Month I am reading a novel called From A Hard Rock To A Gem by a new African American Female Writer. Her Name is Pamela M. Johnson. She's from San Francisco.

From A Hard Rock To a Gem is one of the best books I have read. It is a fictional story about a girl named Diamond Faith Sterling. She is from East Oakland. She is created, nurtured and sustained by her inner-city environment and her dream is to become a queen pin and she makes it. However, when she gets older she has an awakening. Diamond tak

I just finished Tananarive Due's "The Good House" and am starting on "The Between". I always read romantic fiction before but am so glad that I stumbled upon this wonderful author. Just goes to show that we can write about more than gangs and drugs, cheating and lying.

I am reading 2 books of poetry. Vocal Moments by Vickie Oliver Lawson and Visions by Gregory W. Bryant.

-Tamarra Bryant

I just finished Tananarive Due's The Living Blood. As an African American author of Horror myself, I am really impressed with Tananarive Due. Her writing is really up there with Stephen King, John Saul and Dean Koontz. I urge everyone to pick up a copy of My Soul to Keep and then read the Sequel, The Living Blood. We need more author's of diversity. Like rap music, our writers are all cramming the room of one or two genres. Tananarive Due is trailblazing a new genre for another generation of Black Authors.

-Gregory A. Townes

I am reading the making of a slave, the willie lynch letter. there is a lot of truth in this book which i believe is still going on today which is called a modern slavery system..

I saw every other person on the subway reading the book Be more careful. I also lent it to several coworkers who thought it was the bomb.

I love the "Easy Rawlins" series by Walter Mosley. If anyone wants to read about L.A. before the gangs, riots and Bling- Bling try one of Mr. Mosley's books. All his mysteries contain murder, humor, history, and sex i.e. real life. The life of our grandfather's and mothers's from the south arriving in the north.

-zgirlsmom

I also read "Push" by Mr. Relentless Aaron. I am curious to know more about this author and his work. I haven't read anything like his writing since the old greats as Iceberg Slim, Donald Goines & Claude Brown. Mr. Relentless Aaron has taken the literay world and given Urban fiction back the style and savvy it had begun to dilute.

-Peaches

I look forward to see which books are on Essence's book list. I often base my choice from the list. I've read all of Eric Jerome Dickey's novels; I was wondering if any of his works will be at the big screen?

-carla mims

I don't know if this is the proper place, but I'm a first-time author and my first book has just come out. It's a dark, religious allegory set in the distant future, and the major characters are of color. It's called, Fire of God. You can purchase it at most online bookstores and also amazon.com. In fact, if you go to www.iuniverse.com, you can browse the first chapter if you like. Does anyone know how I might secure a review from Essence Magazine? Please let me know.

-J. M. Kelly

I am reading a new book titled,How To Make A Graceful Exit:Letting Go of the Past.

It is about relationships that are irreparable. One needs to let go. The books talks about unforgiveness, resentment and bitterness, these are crippling to ones behavior and character if they cannot let go. It is a process, and the books discusses ways of helping you to get passed those negative feeling and thoughts.

BTW: For Black History Month, I'm trying to get a copy of Ready for Revolution, Stokely Carmichael/Kwame Ture's new autiobiography, and I'm reading the book featured on Essence.com, Quitting America by Randall Robinson. I highly recommend both!

-Sheba

Tiffany...I'm just wondering (having never read any of Zane's books), is there anything of Black historical value in her erotica? Is anyone else reading anything that educates us about our history and our contributions to America? Not to dis anyone, butI understood the question to be not just what are you reading during the month that happens to be Black History Month, but what are you reading FOR Black History Month (ie. to further the cause).

-Sheba

For black history month, I will be reading Zane's new book, "Chocolate Flava". All of her books are addicting!

African continent, resulting in millions of orphans is not a small part of this story nor is the reprise they found in the unexpected place, Mississippi.

I am reading "Love in the Driest Season" the heart wrenching love story of Neely Tucker, white foreign correspondent from Mississippi and his fiesty African American wife, Vita, now of the African department of World Vision. This, read in one sitting, family memoir chronicles Neely and Vita's triumph of love over prejudice and superstition while living in Zimbabwe and trying to adopt a baby girl abandoned in the bush as a newborn for the ants to eat her umbilical cord. The devastating aids epidemic and civil unrest on the Af

I (We) are in the beginning stages of starting a book club in the local area. I want the book to be as diverse as the group, as well as entertaining. Out of the list that is provided, which one would u recommend.

I (We) would like to have our first discussion during the month of March.

I'm reading Love Notes by Reginald Dunlop. I Heard it was a dramatic yet positive love story which is something that I as a black woman could use to hear. Once I read it I found that it was more than just a love story. Love Notes is deep...

-Valerie

The book is Flower's Bed; Author is Antoine "Inch " Thomas www.flowersbed.com soon to come a Best seller.

-Rayshawn Rose

I ALSO READ "PUSH" BY RELENTLESS AARON. I FOUND THE NOVEL TO BE FAST-PACED FROM COVER TO COVER. THE TWISTS AND PLOTS WERE TALENTED WRITTEN. THE BOOK WAS RECOMMENDED BY A FRIEND. IT IS RAW & IT'S UNINHIBITED, BUT IT IS AN EXCELLENT READ!!!!

-MONICA STONE

I READ "PUSH" BY RELENTLESS AARON.. IT''S HARDCORE FICTINO NOVEL THAT IS DIFFERENT FROM ALL THE OTHERS I HAVE READ. IT INVOLVES ALL RACES IN THIS NOVEL AS WELL AS VARIOUS ECONOMIC STATUS CHARACTERS. THE BOOK IS NOT THE SAME OLE FICTION AS WE ARE ACCUSTOMED TO. IT'S A HOT READ!!

-JOANIE SMITH

I will be reading From Superman to Man & The World's Greatest Men of Color Vol. 1 both by J.A. Rogers. These two books are a MUST HAVE if you want to expand your knowledge of Black History and History itself!

Peace, Love and Good Health to all.

-Samantha Taylor

I have to admit that I have finished the following book but I am giving a recommendation. The Bridge Is Over by J. Sebastian is a very good book.

The author is a new author, however he did a great job. Hold tight to your seats on this one. Don't forget to spread the word!

-Mocha0503

I'm reading "Walking With the Wind" By John Lewis. I would have to say, this book really open my eyes to a past i thought so little about by my ignorance and what i was taught in school. I would definetly recommand this book to all ages to show how important the movement is for all of us [African-Americans] and why we should be proud of who we are and what we can accomplish and why we definetly should. They have open so many doors for us, and we should take it.

What am I reading for black History Month?

I am reading the same things I would read on a daily, weekly, monthly and yearly basis. I don't wait until February to read about my history. There would be too much to catch up on if I did. I think we need to celebrate and educate through out the year not just one month. It's too many youth and some grown adults who still don't grasp and appreciate the past. If they did they would learn to value their life as well as others. Also they would stop using the N word I don't care how

I want to know where I can purchase the book "Germany's Black Holocaust by Firpo Carr! I frequent Waldenbooks, Barnes & Norbles, B. Dalton and Borders and none of these bookstores carry the book nor can they order it! My zip code is 20866 for Burtonsville, MD!

I am a nineteen year old college student and for Black History month I am reading "ASSATA", the autobiography of Assata Shakur; former panther member who was falsely accused of the killing of two white state troopers during the 60's panther movement. This is a powerful book and I recommend it to anyone who is interested in learning about the panther movement.
