Hi Tanisha, I need help getting rid of my student loans from college. The interest is killing me! It seems like I'm paying all the time but the balance due keeps getting larger. I'm only able to make about $150-200 a month on a $40K+ variable interest, consolidated loan. Someone said that I could ask my lender to put my account into collections, stopping the interest charges. Then maybe I could negotiate a payment plan with the collections agency. It makes sense to me but is it possible? Interested

Hi Tanisha, Great suggestions on wealth building. In answer to Phyllis's question on picking individual stocks, I might suggest that she do some serious research on stock picking before making the plunge to Sharebuilder. A very important note about individual stock investing is that you can make money and /or you can loose your shirt. Sharebuilder does not give you advice on what stocks to pick they assume that you know what you are doing and they provide a service to trade/buy them for you and that?s aout it. Another

Hi Tanisha, you look different but I think we went to school together. This is Shavonne from Highland. I just got this month's issue and was taken back because it's been so long since I've seen you. I also heard you on the radio about a year ago doinga financial report of some kind. It's pretty cool reading your financial advice. You go girl!

I have been a reader of Essence for a long time. I see that you always encourage women of color to invest in stocks. I went on the Sharebuilders website to open an account and frankly I am at a loss as to setting up the account and picking out the stocks. I called customer service to ask how it works, as far as the charges and fees went, but I don't know what to pick and how often to pick them. If you could explain how Sharebuilders works, I would like to try it again. Thanks for any help.

Ms. Sykes, I am sure you get plenty of emails and if not yet soon after reading your powerful article, with practical information for helping sisters get their money straight. I am also writing because I was highly intrigued when I saw your last name and photo. (Same last name for my family), I realize that you not only have the same last name as mine (same spelling also), But that you greatly resemble relatives of mine. We are originally from a small-rural town called Columbia, in North Carolina. If you have ancestors f
