i just realized i spend roughly 2800 a year for weekly salon visits... i need to learn how to maintain my own hair... at least do my own shampoos b/w touch ups... and save some of that cash for me instead of shelling it out to my stylist!

Two things...read the small print on on-linebanking, yes it costs less, and you might get a higher rate and/or less fess but it could cost you in flexibility if you need to access your money right away. Second, check your ceridt report. Erroneous information or information that has not been removed could be costing you higher rates in insurance, and credit card interest.

Hi! I'm a man who often reads ESSENCE magazine. I'd like to comment on a recent article in your magazine about saving money. I think it's a excellent article! I't very simple and practicle. I think more African American people who are concerned about their finances should take serious note of this article. Thank you!!!

The semantics don't bother me it's about saving money and not "not robbing Peter to pay Paul" so I would suggest getting rid of cable. It's a luxury especially in the DC area where basic can be $80 with fees and taxes. Also, think about a basic or no home phone line. Lastly, I'm not there yet but do not charge something if you can't pay it off in full. We give creditors so much of our money due to lack of discipline. Blessings to you!

the titile is not msleading. depending on you debt you can save that much by cutting out certain things. if your not in debt or conscience of your money and spending habits then this article would not grab you.

The title was misleading. I do agree that if you utilize the tips mentioned, then you could save more than $5,000 over a year period. The title sounds like simply saving that much money all in one day. That's what makes it misleading. Good tips though. Change the title. Sheila Baltimore, Maryland

There is nothing misleading about this article. This is just an example of how you can save money. There are many ways to cut back on expenses, you just have to figure out what works best for you. Some of you people complain too much, if you are not complaining about the title of an article, then you are complaining about the content. GOOD GRIEF. Let it go.

I liked the article, but the title is misleading. The amount of savings one can occur also depends on the type of services that are being used, for example I don't use cell phone services. I pay 10.00$ per month for a prepaid minute card for emergency cell phone use only. I think the article could have been titled differently & also give more examples of other things one can save money on over the course of a year, which is more realistic.

I am a single woman who lives in TX. It is actually cheaper for me to eat out. I typically don't have the time or the appetite to eat 3 square meals a day. The high cost of utilities in TX combined with the fast rate at which food spoils makes it much more economical for a single woman like me to grab a healthy salad or sandwich from a deli for lunch rather than making it myself. I'm not a big fan of leftovers either.

Useful information but I agree that the article did not live up to the promise of the title.

Not misleading at all...it got our attention! If you incur all of the expenses listed and followed the advice, one could save $5000 a year after one day's 'work' at the computer, library, and Yellow pages. Perhaps the missing 3 words would be "realize annual savings." That's my two cents.

I was a bit disappointed when I didn't see how to save $5,000.00 in one day. I don't make that much in one week and I was curious to see how to save that much in one day. In three words, "Change the title".

The heading for this article really is misleading. I really expected to read something more in depth that would make saving 5,000 a day do able.

Thanks for the tips. Some are very helpful. However the title 'Save More Than $5,000 in Just One Day' is misleading.

I tried the bringing your lunch from home suggestion, but with the price of food sky high, by the time you purchase meat, cheese, bread, a beverage, fruit and salad items, you have spent a lot more than $5/day.

Ok where is the information on make your day off pay off? These things that you suggest can be done at anytime? Article is misleading!

the cell phone suggestion isn't true. my plan is only 39.99 and i have 1500 t mobile minutes. but by the time you add in surcharges and fees it will still end up at about 50.00 a month. This wasn't a smart article.
