In case you were sleeping, Brothers are wide awake, globalization is causing corporations as well the US government to out source middleclass jobs (that which makes you successful) to other countries. Since it's just a matter of time, the smart thing to do is to start establishing relationships in some the new emerging economies(Brazil, Latin America, Asia, Africa, etc..). I think speaks of how Black people deal with each other, and whats missing. we are missing something like tenderness and compassion in dealing with each other. So let me get this straight, You are calling the author a "sell-out" for reporting on this behavior. And what is he "selling-out"? Treating others with compassion and not abusing your influence over them? Are we so selfish and caught up satisfying self that everybody else can go to hell? That's a sad way to live. Wow, maybe it's only me, but I'm shocked that my fellow brothers feel that it's acceptable to swoop down on these disadvantaged women (many of whom are under aged, under educated and in horribly desperate situations)) and USE them for their own sexual gratification, and then turn around and get upset with others for reporting on this behavior. I as a black man, intend to live and travel outside of the US, because it is my God given right. Whether I go to Brazil, Panama, Costa Rico, Europe or anywhere in the world, it is no concern of Essence, black women, or a black author. As long as I make my own money take care of my business, it should not concern black America. The brother that wrote this article for a womens' magazine is a straight "sell-out" and unfortunately, he has probably ruined it for some brothers. More importantly, after his trip there he appears no more insightful than a jealous woman might be about the real beauty of Rio and why we (Black men) go there. At the same time, he confirms what I tell my some of my friends who have yet to go--Rio is NOT for every brother and only a select few can fully appreciate the mecca that it is.

I like to visit Panama. The women are also of latin decendants, beautiful and exotic. In fact they have the same stunning beauty that Brazilian women have. Everything you can get in Brazil, you can also get in Panama. I am sure that when 2000 or so American black men start going to Panama, then we will have the same jury to judge them, the way we are juding brothers who go to Brazil. One comment the last author mentioned which is quite interesting. She said that her brother married a Brazilian lady, while at the same time condemning brother for other reasons. So my questions is does she like her new Brazilian Sister in-law? Is she a good woman for her brother? Or does she think negatively of her new Brazilian relative? What made her brother marry a Brazilian woman instead of a American woman? By the way in the last week their as been 3 school shootings, why aren't we addressing that!!!

I am a black woman from florida. I went to Rio 3x in 2005 with my brothers. I spent a month in a smaller city not known to tourists. I can tell you that this article is 100% true. My brother even married a Brasilera and moved her to the states. My first time in Copa Cabana I was shocked and excited to see so many Black American men there.they were living their fantasies out in a way they would never be able to in the states. After a while I realized i had to pretend i was Brazilian to get any play from the black men. Brazil

Keep in mind that an American black woman would not bring a Brazilian man back home, unless is he was financially independent. This is the problem we have today. A black man could find a beautiful Brazilian woman, bring her to America, and she would workhard for the family. The same cannot be said for a Brazilian man. His financial livelihood would come into question. Love would not be enough to make the relationship work!
