Courtney Sloane is the lead interior designer of the HOMECOMING brownstone. Publications ranging from House Beautiful to Metropolitan Home and renowned institutions such as Philadelphia’s Moore College of Art & Design have recognized her as one of America’s top young designers.
Since 1993, Sloane's award-winning studio, Alternative Design (AD), has produced inspiring, dynamic environments for an array of residential and commercial clients. Oscar-nominated actress Queen Latifah engaged Sloane to redesign both her home (1993) and office spaces (1995), as did uberstar Sean "P. Diddy" Combs (1994, 1995 and 1999), and Roc-A-Fella impresario Damon Dash (2003). The world's largest corporations have come calling as well. In 1996, Sloane and her team redesigned Sony Music's 20,000 square foot Manhattan recording studio and soundstage, and in 1998 worked on the development of a theme park concept for Disney.
After more than ten years spent creating interiors that meld the vibrancy of hip hop with Sloane's own sense of state-of-the art form and function, she has become the "go to" person for all things related to hip hop design. Her ability to connect aesthetically with this powerful cultural movement made Sloane the obvious choice for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's landmark exhibit celebrating the 20th anniversary of hip hop.
Of course, Sloane's expertise extends to all aspects of design. Her work has been profiled in The New York Times, O The Oprah Magazine, Seventeen, Harper's Bazaar, Marie Claire, Elle Décor, ESSENCE, Daily Variety, and Hamptons Cottages and Gardens. She has been called "one of the top 100 designers in New York," "one of the nation's top 101 designers," and an "emerging designer of the millennium."
For HOMECOMING, Courtney will interpret the ESSENCE woman at 35, in each phase of her life, personified by her tastes, moods and choices in her home surroundings. Drop by to get fresh ideas for your house or simply to enjoy a visual feast in home decorating.
