I believe in reparations, but what about educational scholarship funds for underpriveleged students? They can be paid directly to HBCUs, which are struggling financially. Education is the key to our future success-

American families and institutions will never give the descendents of African slaves reparations, because they feel that it is of the past and that they have done nothing wrong. Slavery may be of the past but they are enjoying the fruits of my ancestors hard labor and pain. I and the descendents of these Africans are entitled to the same as your ancestors regardless of what country that we live in. Exclusion is no longer an option because our ancestors built America, South and Central American & The Caribbean. The color of our skin is no longer a determining factor of how we will be treated as human beings.

People please let it rest.it's not going to happen. To much time has passed and by the it gets figured out who is a descendant or not of slaves we will all be gone from here. All blacks here in America or not descendants of slaves.Besides how about lets finding out the roots of whom put skaves on those ships to brought to diffrent parts of the world. No where in history have I read where African nations were invaded and natives taken by force but I guess its like the crime that goes on around us "LETS PUT ALL THE BLAME ON SOMEONE ELSE"....and I'm black to the max and defend us but lets get real here.....we are in a better situation that some of the people in most African countries. One more thing"AFRICA"is a continent of many races not a country.

There has been so much intrigue about the Black experience in America due to the media coverage of figures in the African-American community. ???The Student??? examines the psychological complexity of one African-American experience through a literam that is relevant to the Hip-Hop Generation.

Chris just graduated from college and struggles to adapt to the low wages and political environment of Atlanta. He feels that he has been disenfranchised by his own community and is frustrated with the "crabin the barrell" mentality. After a period of stealing gas and dodging bill collectors his long time girlfriend is killed during a bank robbery. Chris reaches his breaking point and decides to use his educational training to engage in illegal activities to pay his bills.

Chris uses the manipulation tactics of Willie Lynch and incorporates his knowledge of Behavioral Psychology to run a successful escort service. As a result, he finds himself in the middle of a political sex scandal

1.the making of amends for wrong or injury done: reparation for an injustice.

2. Usually, reparations. compensation in money, material, labor, etc., payable by a defeated country to another country or to an individual for loss suffered during or as a result of war.

3. restoration to good condition

I believe that ???Blacks??? should receive Reparations because it was and still to this day slavery is Crime against humanity and is the highest level of criminal offense. I also think that as a Black African American we are neverrrrrrrrr going to s??.they have plan this out from the beginning to the end???. well not the end???but they have planed this from day ONE. Many legal experts point to the fact that slavery was not illegal in the United States prior to the Thirteenth Amendment to th States Constitution. Thus, there is no legal foundation for compensating the descendants of slaves for the crime against their ancestors when, in strictly legal terms, no crime was committed. (WRONG is WRONG) .And while they set back and enjoy the fruits of my ancestors labor and pain MOST OF US ARE BROKE AND POOR that???s why black community don???t have anything because our ancestor didn???t??? what can our people past down to us if they never had anything but chains on there hand

Amerikkka will never acknowlege her past. She has become desensitized to the struggles of our people. they just don't care about us until its time to pay taxes, or lock us up. Bottom line Amerikkka is a liar and a cheat. They only time they pay attentionto us is when we act a fool (ie watts riots). We will never be equal for if we were we would be called Americans without the African and that lil hyphen(African-American) that distinguishes us off the bat. Bottom lines is these folks have no conscious and I dont know why we as citizens settle for this crap. they locked Mike Vick up for killing dogs when millions of our ancestors died in the slave trade and not one person has come forward to accept responsibility for it. ITs a travesty for us. There is nostatute of limitations for murder. they owe us big time

I believe in reparations for many, many reasons, the least of which are that we are just simply due them. What has been committed upon us defies any human decency. Secondly if those who oppressed us ever hope to have any future for their children at all they need to come to terms and resolve this issue and quickly. I could write a book on why I agree with reparation but suffice it to say it can be used for industry and job creation, for the support of HBC's, grass root organizations who both work andhave a good understanding of what it will take to even begin to save and restore to sanity the lives that slavery destroyed. We have warrior scholars who have given everything they have to try and educate our people who are reduced to hand to mouth conditions from which to work. Development of a nation-wide Black Psychological Team to treat the minds of our people is paramount. Money should be targeted to those of us who work hard 24-7 to to restore our people. When I read some of the comments below, my stomach turned and I felt positively ill. I read tale after tale of individuals blaming their lack of ambition and educational/monetary success on their ancestors. Honestly. We as a black community have more opportunities for free educational grants freebies and scholarships than any other race. Do you see any scholarships being offered because someone out there is white? Is there a Mexican-American college grant? How about a Japanese-American grant? (remember what we did to the ones living here after pearl harbor?) Seen any channels called W.E.T. "White Entertainment Television"? Absolutely not! There would be riots! Therein lie your repairations. This government, regardless of the motivation, implemented programs and special considerations for our community. When we blame our economic status on slavery we enslave ourselves to a life of mediocracy and mundaneness. Do we deserve repairations, if indeed we can prove we are a decendant and our

The sounds like crap ..and have you noticed that its was middle class Africans that claim tohave a had a problem where only 20% working class said there was a problem.

Keep dreaming about reparations. In the meantime, immigrants come in, including black ones from Africa, the Trinidad, Haiti, etc and succeed through EDUCATION. The formula for sucess is simple as demonstrated by the Jewish community in EVERY society that they've been part of. Through education they rise to the top. We should seek excellence, not reparation.

Does class differences exist? Of course. Those who protest againts its existance simply ignore the nature of human societies. There's no country on earth where class differences and tensions don't exists. The best we can do is give the ones in lower classes access to upward mobility. Those who write about Amerikkka/Reparation and all things terrible and White, would be better served if they looked themselves in the mirror. In there looking back at them is where their greatness lies, or there failure.

Can we really out a price on the idignity suffered by our ancestors? What would the reparation be for a hanging, burnining, whipping, mental and emotional abuse, rape, various tortures,etc...? I really don't think there is a way to put a dollar amount onany of it without America and the world going bankrupt a thousand times over. Slavery didn't end hundreds of years ago. A lot of our people still suffer today from the effects of slavery. Would we get reparations for the PTSD and other effects that wehave suffered for generations? I say that we leave the reparations alone and leave America in the red in regards to the race relations we have suffered for generations. That mark in our history alone is a constant reminder for them. If they pay us thenwe will be expected to forget and move on. I can't/won't ever forget.

There exist a need to reclaim a spiritual foundation that once firmly stood upon a rock mass. In our reading of God's Word the Bible we find sound reminders for successful living. 2nd we also find warning of the Last Days that we are living in. Read: MT.24:1-14 ; 2TIM. 3:1-5 ; & 1John 2:15-17.

Indeed what lies before us as a human family... Is greater than Black America. As a people God desired for us to attain to the greatest dream...

I see such a decline of respect amoung our people. If I could change anything about our race it would be to instill greater pride and respect for each other. Also I am concerned about the black family. With so many of our men being on the down low and dishonest, it is frustrating for black women to have good healthy relationships.

There is alot of work to be done in America regarding the level/equal playing field that most of Black America is asking for. Example, I am a black male less than 30yrs. old, absolutely no criminal history, currently a cop for the past five years, BS and MS Degree several years ago. However, still cannot seem to find employment within our Government Agencies; FBI, Secret Service, etc. Black America genuinly wants the same conciderations as our counterparts..

I have a Bachelor's degree plus 18 graduate hours and I am also a veteran, and can't find emplyment, I have a desk filled with resumes and rejections letters, and I am not the only one, so we have to tell our future children another line on how to achieve success because it is not through education!

I think Deadria Paellman is a strong courageous black woman who

remembers the pain and suffering of our ancestors. I definitely think

that African Americans should receive reparations. Ensuring a free

quality college education for all African Americans and to be exempt

I have traveled the World and am always glad to get back to the US. I have lived in the West and the South. Born three years before the death of Martin L. King, born in LA, and finished high school in Forrest City Arkansas. In 200 years we have went from slavery to the demacratic nomination. Whites still get off the elevator when I get on or if I'm already on, they wait for the next car. I still feel funny when I walk into an all white establishment, knowing from childhood, I have no business in there. There are still towns we as blacks need to quickly pass through without stoping.

We have come along way and I am proud of our advancement. In challenge I win. In disapointment, I overcome. I have taken legally more than whites can ever give me. We can continue to put our heads in the sand and hope and pray for better days. Racism is a fact in American! Black children are not encouraged to get an education and jobs for them is a thing of the past. As a race we have failed our children. Regardless to who is responsible "We Dropped The Ball." Freedom is not free. KNOWING this, let us focus on SOLUTIONS to the problem. 1. Only Black men can effectively mentor and guide black males. 2. Businesses in the black community is a priority. Stopmaking other people rich! (Leave the clothes, nails and hair to Hollywood). Financial Planning and Budgeting is a MUST. 3. Form groups to discuss community solutions. 4. When your race is criticized and belittled by the media, write letters and complain. Also form groups to express your concerns and how unfair reporting impacts your community and the children in your community. It took Hilter 12 years of publicly criticizing and disempowering the Jewish community which resulted i

No reparations. Get real. Have self respect. Stop the women from raising children without fathers. Get involved with their education and give them hope for their future. How will the black community get over itself when parents let children party in front of their house and throw their trash in the street. The white man did not casue them to do that their own black parents let them get away with that. they trash their own front yard. Even a bear knows not to trash his own territory. Kids on my block do this all the time and the parents do nothing and the trash blows all over the place. The funny thing is the parents are trying to sell the house and are not smart enough to know that a trashy street is not atractive to perspective buyers. If I ever said anything to the kids or the parents I would most assuredly be labeled racist yet the behavior effects me and mine. the street I live on was one of the best in the town. At some point these CNN type forums need to look like the very grassroots people and communities that many of these leaders on these specials profess to be speaking for. Its extremely disappointing to hear some of these people in the streets where I comefrom CONTINUALLY insist that these current CNN "State of Black America" forums do not change their lives for the better at all.

We need to have some more forums on how we successfully stopped more Black men from going to jail than college; that we saw more colleges being built versus new jails; and that far too many of our people not having to continue to look to an illegal and life threatening environment as their means to provide for themselves and their familes.

AND WE MUST show "the least of God's people" that the CNN and other national forums like this are not the realization of what Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King said he feared in our leadership offering "the paralysis of analysis."

I tried to watch this show Saturday but it lost me in the first segment. I agreed with most of what Julianne Malveaux said. A two parent household is NOT the answer to everything. My father died when I was very young and I came out okay. I am a college graduate and am about to begin a career in education. All but one of my friends grew up in single-parent households and they are doing well, too. Actually, the friend that had two parents around is the one that struggled the most. The idea that people thathave kids together should always get married is wrong on so many levels. If two people feel forced to marry, they will get divorced and the child will be in a single-parent household anyway. I do believe that a father can be a part of a child's life evenif he is not "with" the child's mother. That option is better than a forced marriage. And even if the father is not around, a male relative can be a father figure in the child's life.

Another thing, it is really weird that a single,

I believe that no matter what race you are, you will have problems in your life regardless. Reparations is not the answer. I have strong feelings about everyone having an education. Even if your parents don't have the money to put you through school, geta student loan. Education is the answer to long term success. I'm a single parent of a disabled child. His dad isn't involved at all. I'm working and going to school full time to get my business degree. If I can do it, anyone can. It's not hard. Just focus on the future and not the past.

I agree with a lot of other comments that we will likely not get reparations because it is unfortunately to a lot of people something in the past that they had no control over. A lot of Whites feel like it is unfair to blame them for what their ancestorsdid despite how much they may or may not be benefitting from it. However, if we were to get reparations for Blacks, then I do not think it should be given in the form of cash payments. I think that every Black person should be able to go to college for free to empower themselves via a better education. We know that people no matter what race can sometimes be foolish with money. So, I say free college education at the good institutions whether HBCUs or not. If people don't want to take a free college education, then put in a fund for their families to inherit or for someone else to use (e.g. the HBCUs or otherwise). Let's be honest some of us would rather get the cash and waste it and not use it wisely. I have had too many discussions

I have had too many discussions with some financially strapped individuals about what they would do with the money. It is always involves some material crap sometimes they say I would pay off all my bills and buy a house. However, it is usually silly stuff which leads us to argue about why not invest in an education or a business or whatever. Change is necessary with us internally as community first---to own our stuff and unite so that we can fight institutional racism and inequality

As an African American woman born and raised, I have experienced all types of prejudice in the work place: not only by caucasion co-workers, but also by black and African born employers.

My last position was at a computer service company. The boss being born in Libya did not care for women at all. I worked for the company for 2 years and 1 month ( Out lasted all of the other women that ever worked there). When my husband was diagnosed with cancer and in the hospital for almost one month; things got really ugly.

He really demonstrated his authority: rude, arrogant, obnoxious, and went so far as to think that he controlled my destiny.

I am no longer with (WEST LA COMPUTER SERVICES) yes, that is the name of the company, and one Faraj Skelil Abdouli.

This man is a regular Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde: he told me at one time that I might have to be laid off due to the work load. Then he turns around and terminates me for no reason at all, maybe it was because I was not from El Salvador,

They showed a high middle class family In Arkansas. What is wrong showing a blue collar wife & husband. What about the grass roots programs that are making a difference in our communities ? How about showing some communities that still care even though they live in proverty. How about the young man or young woman that came from the hood and has made it, in spite of everything. Why does everything have to be so depressing? There is hope. The program could have showed some positive elements of our communities. Because, with our "growth" somehow, we became lost in the cause, as a people we don't respect one another. Rev. Jessie Jackson made that clear.
