For director–producer–writer–actor Tyler Perry, knowing your audience has value. After grossing more than $75 million from his gospel plays, Perry infiltrated Tinseltown with his 2005 silver screen debut, Diary of a Mad Black Woman ($50 million), followed by several successful adaptations of his stage plays including Why Did I Get Married? ($55 million). Last year he inked a $200 million deal with TBS. With this kind of creative control, chances are Perry will join the billionaire box office club real soon.
