Word on the Street: Real Women On Rihanna's Interview

Rihanna_articleUSETHIS.jpg

We were glued to the television when Diane Sawyer interviewed a teary eyed Rihanna on Good Morning America. Of course, we couldn't help but think about our precious young sisters who look up to this pop princess. So we hit streets of New York City to find out what they thought of the interview. You will be surprised at what some said.

Wow! You've never even had a friend who was with a man who wasn't 'hit for waaay too long; and later looked back on it a thougt how stupid or embarrassed she was? Maybe you need to get out more?

While I don't fully agree with Keisha, we are entitled to our opinions, and it is possible to dislike someone we don't know, just the same as her fans say they love her without knowing her, another person can say they hate or dislike her just the same. I am not a fan of either, but as a woman, I do not like how coincidentally, NOW Rihanna is speaking before her album is about to drop. We heard NOTHING from this young sister and she waits until 8 months after the incident and 1 month before her album is about to drop to speak on her feelings. How dare she say she was embarrassed for falling in love with Chris, you can't those feelings back, its one thing to say you've learned from your mistakes, but I hardly think she was embarrassed for loving him. As woman, we've all been hurt, but I can't ever recall a woman saying, she was embarrassed for loving their man, no matter how bad her treated her. Chris was at the top of his game, and that's what the "Good Girl Gone Bad" wanted, to keep her name in the spotlight. I'm ashamed as a woman, that this young woman is so egotistical, the media created a lil monster, its like she is addicted to attention. She went back all those time, cause she knows aint no other man is the entertainment industry going to put up with her high-maitenance azz, but Chris. This probably all started because she is insecure and got jealous over some BS on the way to the Award Show!! I saw her face when CiCi was over him fake grinding, her smile was fake! She can't sing..the only reason she sells records its because of her looks. Only the two of them know what really happened and I hope the two of them can move on and grow from this.

Wow TG! You Go! I agree. Unfortunately we do live in world where one and all are free to vent and sometimes that's done to the detriment of what and who we hold dear. To those who are not providing constructive criticism regariding this topic at hand: we need to hold each other accountable, true, but we need not leave the love out of it. Spread the love y'all.

I think how tragic that any of us believe that because we put a kid on a stage, with a mic in their hand, that all of sudden because they can entertain us, they instantly have the wherewithall to make sound decisions for themselves or anyone else for that matter. These are two beautiful young people who at their ages, despite their talents and bank accounts need the same understanding and respect for boundaries that the best reared young people get. And no I don't mean that every household raises a sound and healthy child, but strong mentors and "true" role models help to shape and mold us into good, solid human beings. Flawed still, but better. Is it surprising that a 19 year old boy, who grows up watching a man beat his mother, one day repeats the behavior he probably swore he never would, statistically it shouldn't be. So you provide him help, prayer and guidance and hope that he matures into a better man than the ill mistaken boy he was at the time he sought help, because we also know the power of redeemption. Is it all that surprising that a young girl, whose image is driven by the wheels of machine that make her appear to be over sexual as early as 14 and 15 and because she appears on MTV in a video, rather than some man's internet screen we don't see it as wrong--finds herself at only 20 not truly clear on what love is, one for herself and then factor in a young man with personal demons; again the glaring statistics say no. When your musical mentor proclaims that he's got 99 problems and a bi*%^ ain't one, then the man you may seek to love just may embody that spirit as well. We owe our children so much more than our judgements on their mistakes, when we fail to teach them better lessons from our own. Let your children know that being on tv makes you a model with a role, not a role model. Embrace both Rihanna and Chris for the young people they are, lovely in both their beautifully flawed skins, but desperately in need of 'real' love for themselves and our communities to develop and help them mature into their destinies, no matter when the next cd drops or if one should never drop again. When we truly examine the true lesson of their story, I think we will all understand that there is nothing "domestic" about it. We have a global challenge of rage and violence toiling and destroying our children and we must stand up for them and with them and say I will love you again as I was shown how to love. This world will be better for you because I will help make it so. Who else is with me?

It's all a lot of foolishness! Who knows what caused this. Not that it's an excuse, but no one is looking that fact that Chris Brown was wrong!!!! And what was going on in their relationship? Did she provoke him? Was her working with J a probelm? Come on now!

I strongly agree with clt, yes, Rihanna should have thought about this, but the important thing is she is confessing to this. For the record sells or not, she is coming out about this. She is taking a full responsibilities for herself. And we need to forgive her for that. And if anybody makes an unwise comment about Rihanna deserves to get a beat down is the reason why we black women cannot get any respect from black men, from white people or anybody.

Keisha needs to go BACK TO SCHOOL and get an education! I am so SICK of ignorant "Sistahs"!

When I saw the interview I couldn't help but waver a little bit. I feel that no "black sista" or any woman deserve to be hit,but it makes you look at like why now ? It's been 8 months and she just so happen to have an album coming out which is dark and twisted !! which she sings about the sistuation she was in. Don't get me wrong I like both Chis/Rihanna music but if you are trying to be a poster board for young girls you should have done it earlier when it was still fresh .Becasue "some" people will look at like what is the real meaning behind it now ( to boost your record sales of the album). But the thing that puzzle me is where is his mug shot ?? Why haven' they shown his they blasted hers !! On any county or parish offender you have access to view their mug shot where is his ??? That's becasue she probably jacked him up more then he did her ?? If he done all of that to her you can't tell me that he didn't any marks on him! And from what I gather she has a temper on her. Think about that Essence Readers !!

Word on the street Word on the street word on the street Wow you really know how to be REDUNDANT REDUNDANT don't ya! WORD!

NO WOMAN DESERVED A BEAT DOWN AND I MEAN NO ONE NO ONE

It is sad that Keisha can display such hatred and venom at someone she does not even know. I can't think of why a woman or man would "deserve" a beat down and hope you never get one either.

Keisha- you need to drink some chamomile tea. Holy bitterness
Anywho. Both Rihanna and Chris could've used their star status to teach young people about domestic violence. Instead neither one of them cares enough to speak a word until right before their album comes out...how convenient.

i wish this stank heifer would go away. she tries to act white cause she is light and bright but this girl is stupid. she probably deserved her beat down.
