Sheree Whitfield Says Reunion Is a Must-See

Setting new rating records for Bravo, "The Real Housewives of Atlanta" has wrapped a second season. And the show's Queen Bee, Sheree Whitfield, closed out the finale by unveiling her fashion collection, She by Sheree. The reality star sets the record straight with ESSENCE.com on the lesbian rumors, whether the ladies are really like their TV personas and why tonight's reunion show is a must-see.

ESSENCE.COM: After watching your fashion show, was there anything that you would have changed?
SHEREE WHITFIELD:
It wasn't the first fashion show of the season, but definitely the last. I wish they had showed more because it was really nice. Other than Dwight being above and beyond for TV, I wouldn't change anything. It's edited to look like he did the entire show and he did not. I was 100 percent involved and they cut me out of the scenes. From last season to this one, it's like, wow. Lisa said it's been two years, and it's only been one. I guess some people can't count.

ESSENCE.COM: NeNe called us up last week and shared how she was inaccurately portrayed as a villain on the show. Knowing her, do you think the NeNe we see on TV is not the real her?
WHITFIELD:
I think everyone's character is who they are. Was her coming to my party really how it turned out? Absolutely not. You sign up to do this show. Just like last season, I was the villain. They can only get what you give them. They can edit it whichever way, but they didn't make me pull Kim's hair or get into it with the party planner. These are things that happen. Unfortunately, things happen and you're on TV. Maybe some things happen some people wish were not caught. This time you see different sides of people's personalities, but the season is definitely true to who everybody is.

ESSENCE.COM: And there's buzz about you possibly being a lesbian and discussing your sexuality on tonight's finale. Please set the record straight.
WHITFIELD:
I don't feed into those rumors. It goes in one ear and out the other. I know who I am. Anybody would do anything for hits on their site. This reunion is going to surprise a lot of people. People will be shocked. It's a must-watch.

ESSENCE.COM: With Atlanta leading traffic for the "Housewives" franchise, how do you feel your cast is treated by Bravo?
WHITFIELD:
Of course, I don't feel we are treated like we should be. For our ratings to be what they are, could we be treated a lot better? I honestly think so. We put the 'Housewives' on the map, but you would never know that. Numbers do not lie.

Tune in to watch part one of a two-part reunion of Bravo's "The Real Housewives of Atlanta" on Thursday, October 29, at 10 P.M. ET.

I saw the reunion and it looks like they were all holding back their true feelings just to seem nice and end it nice/peacefully. Althugh people love drama, I love when ppl are real and that reunion wa sos fake to me. Like Lisa and Sheree were cutting eyes like crazy on eahc other, like theyy had some tension, hostiltity they wanted to express but were holding it back. And nene and Kim, their weird behind relationship. After what Nene said about plucking every toenail beofr ebeing Kim's friend again, i was sure she wa sodne with her but I guess not. We will see in the next season. Lisa and Sheree I wish both of your lines success, but Black WOMEN! Can WE JSUT GET ALONG! can we both exist at the same time, while successful without the hate and drama. I get that crap at work from older black women and the mess is annoying. Respect others and they will respect you

It's all sad. You cannot find any healthy entertaining shows like the Cosbys anymore. When you do, what do people say? They say there's no such thing as the Cosbys in real black life. Why are they quick to say that? Maybe it's because of shows like this. People are only used to seeing us fight and act out on one another. They're only used to seeing us half naked as video hoes. Maybe that's why so many of us sisters have a damn hard time finding something nice to say about Michelle Obama because we're just used to destroying one another. If the show is entertainment to you, as a sister, you should ask yourself why. Why is it entertaining to see US act this way?

BeBe you are right, but unfortunately too many people support this type of "entertainment" or support that they are "getting paid just like the white RHW" and some people "love" NeNe because she "keeps it real". The show is completely fake(most are not married, everyone except one (Kandi)is broke and never really had money (except maybe Lisa). They play for the camera only to best friends or enemies the next show or at the reunion. It is time to retire the RHOA.

Never watched the show and won't. I did see a clip of her online arguing with a queen about her party. It was like a car crash. You can't stop watching it, but I certainly wouldn't call it entertainment.

Kandi, for the life of me I will never understand why you are part of the show. You are successful and smart, a self made woman. You are too good to be part of such a bunch. Why don't you get your own show?

"Why is that once a show of mostly african american women...they are ghetto or making the whole race look bad...why the double standard.....its entertainment plain and simple..."

Good point, but think. If you or we (sisters) consider this show to be entertainment, then you make it okay for others to put us down and make fun of us too. It's a double standard that we bring upon ourselves when we act this way. Damn. Can't nobody else see the hypocrisy? So everything, no matter how terrible it looks is just laughable entertainment? Judging from comments like this, I guess so. Everybody just laugh, laugh at how dumb we make ourselves look.

Remember Omarosa? She said they told her to become the villain of the show. She did it for the show and ended up selling her soul for it. Everywhere she went, everybody wanted to make a villain out of her - and all sisters. Michelle is doing a great job representing us. All I'm saying is why can't we do the same? Why can't we just think about the ramifications of what we put out there as sisters instead of just saying it's entertainment because we want to get that paper? They said amos and andy was entertainment too. They said step n' fetch was JUST entertainment too. Now, looking back at those shows, whose the first to say they're proud of them?

Come one now. We all know that it's totally different if you are black in this country how you're viewed. White folk can go on shows like cops, NJ housewives and act the fool because they're a more variety of positive and negative images of them out there. They control the media and how they're viewed most of the time. But us? No. There are very few images of us on t.v. period. Then, the few images that the country does see are what...negative. I'm just saying, think. IF we don't want the Don Imus' or Perez Hiltons of the country talking down to us or negatively then don't PRESENT the negative images to the world as if we act like that all of the time. You know that's exactly how we will be viewed all of the time. We get no fairness. Never have, never will. So why make it worse by acting out for money on t.v.?

thrash axiomatic contextually sheeting burial squander,- Tons of interesdting stuff!!!

I dont understand why Black women watch the other shows in which the casts are all white......and made the shows to what they are......and they werent seen as bringing down their whole race...the shows were taken for what they are...Entertainment

Why is that once a show of mostly african american women...they are ghetto or making the whole race look bad...why the double standard.....its entertainment plain and simple...

One more question for ourselves. Why, as sisters, do we find derogatory images of ourselves to be entertaining? If Imus calls us something bad - it's wrong. Yet, it's OKAY for us to verbally, socially, etc. beat down one another and call it entertainment? Why?

First, why is the show called the real "housewives" of atlanta? Half of them aren't even married. Second, when will we as sisters stand together and be responsible for the images we project of ourselves in the media? Why is projecting positive images of us so hard to do? When folks look at us and think all of us are drama driven, low class behaving, etc. then we'll understand because that's all people get to see of us in the media. If making a buck and ratings are that important then don't be upset when folks think so little of us. Kandi, you're too smart to be on the show.

People BLOGGING is an impromptu form of speech it is like TEXTING. There are NO RULES to it. It is NOT a journal, magazine or article. Just thoughts. GET OVER THE GRAMMATICAL ERRORS it will happen. If you get their point who cares. I am sure MOST of us are SMART ENOUGH to decipher it...UNLESS that person is just TOTALLY WONG!!! OOOPS DID I SAY THAT.. I MEANT WRONG!

Sheree u say u feel the cast of RHOA is not being treated well by Bravo..well why don't u all stop being on the show. U all would if it weren't your main source of income. All of you other than Kandi who has her own $ got the material things u got as a result of a man. Remember u lost your big fabulous house cuase your ex wasn't paying the mortgage. Why didn't you make the payment since you come across as all that? I remember in the 1st season u said u had was it 500 or 1000 pairs of shoes..I don't have but maybe 20 pairs of shoes but I can pay my mortgage. U, Lisa, Nene & Kim need 2 stop faking it all of you are so petty..u keep talking about the same things u said this about me & u said that about me..enuf with the preschool stupid stuff.

None of RHOA have money, not even their husbands or ex-husbands. They are all playing like they are rich and playing like they really argue and are through with each other, only to be best friends again. I tired of this fake a@@ show. The truth is everyone except for Kandi is 1 Bravo check away from being evicted.Kim makes her living as a call girl, at best and was never married. Greg met NeNe in the strip club, that's why he sees something other than ugly. Sheree's clothes was pitiful. Lisa is a money hungry, she did lose Keith Sweat's kids because she spent more of child support on her rather than the kids. (research the ajc.com newspaper). It would be nice to have a more positive show that has more reality.
