Update: 11/12/09: Shaquille and Shaune O'Neal pitched a reality TV show based on their seemingly happy family called 'Love Shaq' earlier this year, according to TMZ.  Apparently the pilot caught the attention of A&E who told TMZ they're still "considering" purchasing the show, despite the news of the couple's split.

Fast Break: Shaquille and Shaune O'Neal Separate

Shaquille O'Neal and his wife Shaunie O'Neal are legally separated after almost seven years of marriage. According to Los Angeles Superior Court documents and numerous reports, Shaunie sites irreconcilable differences for their breakup and is seeking sole custody of their four children with visitation rights for Shaquille. Shaunie resides in Florida, but the papers were filed in California where she claims to be a resident as of November 8.

The couple supposedly has a prenuptial agreement.

This is the second split for the couple. Shaquille filed for divorce in 2007 according to People.com. when Shaunie accused the basketball star of hiding money from her. After the drama played out in the media, the O'Neals later got back together.

I feel bad for the couple, and I don't wish divorce on anyone. I hope for their marriage and for the kids sake that they can work this out.

DERRICK: I hate that you feel that way. As some of the ladies said, maybe your categorizing all black women this way because of the women you've been with, but you should not do that. Your standards before should be the same with all women, so if you got a bad seed, just change what you bring to the table and what your looking for.

Like someone else said, if your black then you come from a black woman, so don't make that type of statement. There are plenty of GOOD, Educated, Ambitious Black Beautiful women out here who will stand by your side and support you in your dreams (not financially)! Black women who are doing something with their life want a MAN who they can partner with, not take care of. Many relationships where there is a Black man and White woman, the white woman is taking care of him like his mother would and does not require him to become a REAL Man! Not saying that is who you chose to date, but that is reality majority of the time..

If something happened and that made you upset with Black Women, take some time, and heal, then forgive her or them, and go on with your life dating whom ever you please but don't let it be because of her skin color.

Sometimes it takes the prayers of a community to keep our marriages together. No one knows what goes on behind the closed doors of the O'Neal's;only they know their business best. What I have learned, is that the second time around in the same relationship is not always the best decision. We need to get back to the simplicity of just loving and forgiving each other regardless of what material stuff we do or do not possess. When one marriage fail it's like we all have failed. The divorce is felt throughout the community. I wish the O'Neal's well.

Derrick, I see that everyone has commented on yor statement that you stop dating black women and moved on to educated women. I don't know wat woman black or white would date such a ignorant fool. I am college educated, with a career. I have two children and I told my soon to be ex-husband that he can kick the bucket. Why cause I dont need spousal support was taking care of myself before I met him nd will do so after. And it's not about the money. Maybe you just chose to date gold diggin strash and now want to use your lame a$$ excue for not dating black women. Here is a heads up if black men act like you then I'd rather date white men. BUT unlike you I don't fault my entirerace because a a few fools. Get a clue! Are you educated? Do you have a career o you go some white women willing to take care of you? How you doin pimpin?!

too bad, but it looks like th wife was smart enough to file in Cali. It's a 1/2 state..that's right, 1/2 of everthing. Contrary to this blog, I thought last time, the wife was the one who hid the $.

climb back n2 the crab pot Derrick , best place 4ur

DERRICK:

You proably don't have any money, anyway. Do you love your own mother? Because if you did love her, you would date black women. You have no backbone are no balls. Most black women with any kind of common sense will not put up with any bullshit. Derrick you are a sell out!!!!!!!!

Stop being such a p---- and man up! Divorces should not be made so easy. He and She needs to tough it out -- go get christian counseling, seriously. You can not, that I know of, take money with you when you die. So, do the right thing guys.

ohhhhh!!!! That's to bad. What about the kids

Derrick is gay!! He's moved on to gay white men..DON'T FRONT!! A real sista don't even want your sorry a$$..your "wood" isn't big enough..so move it on to the low group of women!! Be-otch!!!

Derrick is stupid!

Derrick, GOOD!, Educated beautiful black women who have careers don't need self hating black men like you or any man like you. If you are black, you came from between the legs of a black woman... You just spit in the face of every black woman in your family... Judging from your comments, you more than likely can't attract a well educated sucessful sister.. Most men who choose other races based soley on bad experiences have no other options.

Let it go already....Do what needs to be done for the children and MOVE ON!!!!

Why are these people wasting our time. Two years ago, the O'Neals knew that they could not live with each other, and now they both realize that, in 2009. Please DIVORCE already and leave the spotlight for families that have real issues, like unemployment, death, sick children, homelessness etc.

I don't have a bad commit to say by either party. I just pray they can work things out like they did before. I really don't like reading about another black family being torn apart. I am really praying hard for them and hoping they can seek spirtual counseling. They have four beautiful kids who needs them both. As a black community lets just pray for our people and try to uplift them in bad times regardless if they are famous or not. Even though they are famous they still need our prayers.

Get with a church and learn Jesus not legal separation. What kind of image is this for those who are watching. Hiding money from who? For goodness sake you can't have all the money.
