Class Act: Yara Shahidi Is Headed To Harvard University

The 17-year-old actress will be at the Ivy League at the same time as Malia Obama.

After months of speculating where one of our favorite young Hollywood stars was attending college, Black-ish star Yara Shahidi announced that she’s going to Harvard University!  

Shahidi made the announcement on Instagram with this proud #CrimsonPride post, along with a famous quote from author James Baldwin:

"The paradox of education is precisely this - that as one begins to become conscious one begins to examine the society in which he is being educated."

Shahidi had her college recommendation letter written by former First Lady Michelle Obama, so there was no doubt that the 17-year-old actress wasn’t headed to a great university. Ironically, Obama’s daughter Malia is also headed to Harvard University in Fall 2017 after taking a gap year so she and Shahidi will be classmates.

Shahidi joins the ranks of a few other famous stars who attended Ivy League schools, and other Harvard University alums like Rashida Jones, Courtney B. Vance and Tatyana Ali. Former President Barack Obama also went to Harvard Law School.
