Obama Watch: Graduation at Hampton University

President Barack Obama delivered a commencement address at Hampton University today, making him the second US president to do so at the historically Black college. In his speech the President urged graduates to close the education gap. "By any number of different yardsticks," he said, "African-Americans are being outperformed by their White classmates, as are Hispanic-Americans...All of us have a responsibility, as Americans, to change this." He also told graduates to remember they have a responsibility to their communities and to being role models to their "little brothers and sisters." Congratulations to the class of 2010, and to HU! President Obama To Eulogize Virginia Miners

President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama will attend a memorial service today for 29 workers killed in a West Virginia coal mine where the President will deliver a eulogy and meet with miners' families. "We cannot bring back the 29 men we lost," he will say according to excerpts of his speech. "They are with the Lord now. President & First Lady To Appear On 'American Idol'

President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama will make a guest appearance on an episode of "American Idol" airing next week. Let's hope we'll finally get to see the First Lady belt out a song by her favorite singer, Stevie Wonder. We kid. Their taped segment is a part of AI's annual "Idol Gives Back" charity drive, which has raised more than $140 million in funds donated to organizations around the world. This year's charity recipients include Save the Children US, Children's Health Fund, Feeding America and Malaria No More.
