Kerry Washington Makes Political Fashion Statement at SAG Awards

The star wore a safety pin to show her solidarity amid political unrest in America.

Kerry Washington's ensemble for the 2017 Screen Actors Guild Awards wasn't all about glamour.

The acclaimed actress responded to the recent political unrest surrounding President Donald Trump's proposed wall at the Mexican border and ban on Muslim refugees entering the country by wearing a safety pin to show her solidarity.

Washington took to her Instagram page to speak out on her stance saying, "I'll be wearing one of these tonight. On my arm. To show solidarity. We will not stop fighting for our safety & the safety of our fellow citizens and human beings. #NoBanNoWall #safetypin."

Kerry is not the first to show her support by making this particular fashion statement. Following the election of Donald Trump, many opted to show solidarity with marginalized groups in America by wearing safety pins. Many criticized the movement, saying it was an empty and non-impactful way to take a stance.

Still, it seems that Kerry who has been very vocal about injustices in the past, is simply taking on the trend to let her voice be heard on a major platform.
