We know and love Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie for her masterfully written novels and musings on feminism. But there’s also no denying that the African author is as beautiful as she is wise — which is why she has been tapped as the new face of Boots No7 cosmetics.
The collaboration between the 39-year-old writer and the British drugstore beauty brand makes total sense — Adichie has quickly become a pop culture icon and is a self-proclaimed makeup fan.

“I love make-up and its wonderful possibilities for temporary transformation. And I also love my face after I wash it all off,” Adichie said in a statement. “There is something exquisitely enjoyable about seeing yourself with a self-made new look. And for me that look is deeply personal. It isn’t about what is in fashion or what the rules are supposed to be. It’s about what I like. What makes me want to smile when I look in the mirror. What makes me feel slightly better on a dull day. What makes me comfortable.”
We love the powerful message being sent that you can be a part of the movement for gender equality and hold feminist ideals while still rocking a fierece lipstick. And that’s no shade to the #nomakeup trend that singer Alicia Keys and other celebrites have been embracing — but it’s amazing to know that our strength is present whether we’re bare-faced or fully beat.
Adichie’s campaign with Boots No7 officialy launches on October 21. Are you as excited as we are?
