Torrei Hart may be known for her comedic nature, but after hearing the recent comments Amber Rose made about South Philly women, the mother of two found no reason to laugh. Rose, who appeared on N.O.R.E.’s Drink Champs stated that being blessed with beauty in the area that she grew up caused her upbringing to be very difficult.
“I don’t know how I could say this without sounding f—ked up,” she prefaced. “A lot of the people where I’m from aren’t traditionally attractive people. Me, being blessed with beauty — as beautiful women know — is a blessing and a curse.”
Twitter responded to the comments with affirming words and questions about the 33-year-old's politics.
Torrei Hart, who is from North Philly, caught wind of Rose’s statement and didn’t take to her words too lightly. Issuing her own response, Hart questioned Amber on whether her statement was about her beauty pre-surgery or currently.
“If she’s talking about post-surgery, of course she’s not going to look like anyone in the South Philly area,” she began. “I think Amber has got it a little twisted, too. She let these men gas her up a little bit. She forgot that men are gonna tell you whatever they need to tell you to get into the draws.”
The natural haircare line owner then went on to remind the bodacious Slut Walk creator that there are plenty of beautiful people in Philadelphia and because of the platform that she’s on, she should choose her words wisely.
“There are a lot of young girls that look up to her. They’re taking her words; they’re taking everything that she says and they’re holding on to those words. There’s young girls with self-esteem issues,” she said. “People commit suicide every day because of self-esteem issues.”
To wrap up her two-minute video, Hart cautioned Rose to act her age and not continue to the same things she was saying during her younger days. Additionally, she reminded her that Kanye West was the one to save her and is now on to the next.
Rose, who took to her social media account to clean up the initial statement responded by saying, “I find beauty in everyone. I think everyone is beautiful. Unfortunately, it’s not easy doing interviews and always saying things the way you really want to articulate them.”
Here’s to hoping that Rose chooses her words a little more carefully in the future.
