Just call her Becky with the good clapbacks!

We can’t help but celebrate one of Empire’s most beloved cast members – Gabourey Sidibe. With the culture of body shaming at a peak, it’s refreshing to see a bold, beautiful, full-figured, curvy, dark-skinned woman thriving in Hollywood. Critics thought Sidibe would never find work in the business since her breakout role in the 2009 film Precious. Despite big time agents and producers counting her out, she’s garnered considerably more mainstream roles and has shown just how far confidence can take you—and she hasn’t been shy about sharing how she really feels about haters either—much to our delight.
Here’s just few of the times Gabby Sidibe has been frank about what she’s really thinking.

On ignoring other people’s opinions…

I was born to stand out. I don’t care whether or not people will find me attractive on screen. That’s not why I became an actor. I know that more and more with each new role.”

On being mistaken for other actresses…
"Precious is skinny now," Time to Break's Twitter headline read. "She's living up to her beautiful name." Already they've fat-shamed her and forgotten to mention her real name, but it gets worse...

That's actually Amber Riley on the right--as most of us already knew and Gabby took to Twitter to set the record straight.

On that Empire love scene…

“I, a plus sized, dark-skinned woman, had a love scene on primetime television. I had the most fun ever filming that scene even though I was nervous. But I felt sexy and beautiful and I felt like I was doing a good job. I’m very proud of the work we all did to make that scene a great opening for the episode. I keep hearing that people are “hating” on it. I’m not sure how anyone could hate on love but that’s okay. You may have your memes. Honestly, I’m at work too busy to check Twitter anyway. #Booked. Hope you enjoy next week’s show!”

On twirling on her haters…

“If I hadn't been told I was garbage, I wouldn't have learned how to show people I'm talented. And if everyone had always laughed at my jokes, I wouldn't have figured out how to be so funny. If they hadn't told me I was ugly, I never would have searched for my beauty. And if they hadn't tried to break me down, I wouldn't know that I'm unbreakable.”

And twirling on them even more…

After trolls made jokes about Gabby's Golden Globes look in 2014, she hit them with the ultimate clapback.

Bloop. Just call her Becky with the good clapbacks!
