The actress revealed that she's stayed mum because of social media, "I didn't want to hear, 'Who's the dad?' Our relationship is not dependent on a ring."
Tika Sumpter's due date is quickly approaching and as it inches closer, the actress is finally dishing on impending motherhood and why she's kept the identity of the baby's father a secret.
The Southside With You actress told Fit Pregnancy that one of the reasons she's stayed quiet about her pregnancy and the baby's father is social media.
"I didn't want to hear, 'Who's the dad?'" said Sumpter, "Social media can be harsh, and I'm a mama bear, protective of my family. So that's why I waited to tell people, including some of my friends."
While Sumpter hasn't revealed who her boyfriend of almost two years is, she did reveal that the pregnancy was a surprise. "I found out around Valentine's Day, when my boyfriend took me on a surprise trip to San Diego. I never want McDonald's, but I was like, 'I need a Big Mac, fries and a Coke now. Afterward, I immediately fell asleep. When I woke up, my boyfriend was like, 'Haha! Are you pregnant?' I said, 'Maybe. Go get a test!'"
She adds that when her boyfriend returned she took the test immediately, which confirmed that she was expecting.
However, there was one person who seemed to know she was pregnant before the star even announced it.
"When I was five months, Tyler Perry texted me, 'Are you pregnant? Inside, I was thinking, 'Oh my god, how did he know?'"

"I wrote back, 'What are you talking about? You're crazy!' But when I saw him that afternoon, I told him," she said. "He just said, 'I knew it! Tika, this is going to be the best time of your life. I feel lucky that he's been so supportive."
With her daughter on the way, Sumpter is doing her best to keep things private so that she can enjoy every aspect of being pregnant without the media attention.
"She's my first child, and I wanted to experience every moment of this pregnancy for myself and enjoy it without everybody else being in it with me."
