An new and unexpected animated series is headed to Netflix.
The streaming service has announced that it’s working on a new animated series for kids based on Motown’s catalog of songs, which will be executive produced by Smokey Robinson.
According to Shadow and Act, the project focuses on the adventures of a shy boy named Ben, who has the ability to bring street art to life. Ben and his family live in Motown, a city based on Detroit and its musical history, where he and his friends discover the importance of creativity. Each episode will draw inspiration from classics performed by contemporary artists.
In a statement about the new series, Robinson said, “I am thrilled to be a part of this wonderful new series that will embrace the magic of Motown and present our songs to a whole new generation of fans and their entire families. I’m so impressed with Josh’s [creator and director] creative vision for the series and can’t wait to play my part in bringing it to the world.”
