We caught up with DuVernay during ESSENCE Festival and couldn’t help but ask about her hair and how she keeps it so stunning. Here's what she had to say:

“I don’t have a real regimen. I use all natural things, and I don’t over groom them. Everyone’s always twisting and twisting and twisting. When you see me out, yes it’s done but when I’m on set, I let it be free. The more you let it be free the stronger it is when you want to twist it’s ready to lock. You gotta let it do what it’s going to do.”

And there you have it. If you let hair your be, you’ll be surprised with what it could do.
