Burgess shares with ESSENCE why Pride Month is so significant to the LGBT community – himself included.
“When something is invisible, you don’t know it’s there,” says Burgess, “but it doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.”
“That’s why coming out is so important. That’s why showing up and speaking out is so important. If I had men who looked like me, who were brave enough to be out when I was growing up, who knows who I would be today?”

Proceeds will benefit GLAAD, an organization that aims to amplify the voice of the LGBT community by empowering people to share their stories and to hold media accountable for the representation of the LGBT community.
“Their mission is in direct alignment politically and socially with what I stand for,” Burgess shares regarding the partnership. “So when it came time to launch phase two of my wine, it was a no brainer to partner with them.”
“If young gay people didn’t have to see the gay community through a straight, homophobic lens, they wouldn’t walk around with the inherited guilt and shame that imprisons them and keeps them from being fully formed,” he asserts. “Pride Month is nothing more than a family reunion for me. It’s a chance to see myself in others and for them to see themselves in me.”
Representation, inclusivity, empowerment - we’ll toast to that, because Pride, Pride, Pride!
