Today, on what would have been the singer's 58th birthday, his home state celebrates him in a wonderful way.

In honor of Prince and what would have been the icon's 58th birthday, Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton has declared today "Prince Day" in Minnesota.

Billboard reports that the governor's proclamation urges everyone to wear purple today to celebrate Prince's contributions to the music industry, his legacy, and his philanthropy.
