Kehlani Delivers Powerful Message About Mental Illness and Suicide

"And from me to you, you are worth it, you are perfect, you need to be here, you are meant to be here."

Back in March, singer Kehlani was hospitalized after she attempted to take her own life. The R&B artist, who will be performing at ESSENCE Fest this year, has since made a full recovery and is now speaking out about suicide and mental illness.

During a show, Kehlani stopped during set to reveal that she'd attempted suicide before and to urge others to seek help.

"If you have a friend and they're scaring you a little, just love them. Just hug them, and love them up, and tell 'em that it's good, okay. And from me to you, you are worth it, you are perfect, you need to be here, you are meant to be here."

The singer stated that she plans to work with the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline to advocate for more discussions on mental health.
