Chris Latimer has gotten help from some cool famous friends, including LL Cool J, to bring back African American College Alliance designs.
Latimer launched a Kickstarter to produce an apparel line celebrating HBCUs and the project has since exceed its $100,000 goal. The African America College Alliance streetwear line will include hoodies, hats, and t-shirts mixing heritage with style. Latimer has also pledged to give back to HBCUs that carry the line and if you still have your old AACA hoodie you can donate it to be given to a needy student and receive $50 toward a new one.
The project reached its goal quite quickly with help from celebs like LL Cool J and Charlamagne, but it's those without big names who really surprised Latimer, "The thing that hit home with me was how much family, friends and HBCU alumni helped us reach our goal."
The line initially became popular during the 1980s and 1990s with celebs like Will Smith and Mary J. Blige rocking the look. Latimer hopes to make the brand popular again through the use of social media, adding that "the explosion will be even bigger now." He hopes to have the apparel line in retail stores and online before classes begin this fall.
