Harriet Tubman Selected to Appear on the Face of the $20 Bill

Talk about Black girl magic! 

It’s an honor that has literally been centuries in the making.

The New York Times reports that the U.S. Treasury Department has selected Harriet Tubman to replace Andrew Jackson on the new $20 bill.

The announcement comes nearly one year after the department first announced that they were considering replacing Alexander Hamilton with a woman on the face of the $10 bill. However, thanks to the newfound interest in Hamilton’s life due to the Pulitzer Prize-winning musical, Hamilton, the U.S. Treasury has appeared to have shifted its focus to the $20 bill.

Government officials say that Jackson’s face will appear on the back of the $20 bill, and other women’s rights leaders will be featured on the back of the $10 bill.
