Producer Shonda Rhimes and the leading actresses from her “TGIT” hit dramas endorse Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton in a campaign video.
In the clip titled “Real Life,” Kerry Washington of Scandal, Ellen Pompeo of Grey’s Anatomy and Viola Davis of How to Get Away With Murder share in turn how their on screen characters reflect the characteristics of Hillary Clinton.
“Every day I wake up and play a brilliant, complex, overqualified, get-it-done woman who obsessively fights for justice, who, cares who gives a voice to the voiceless, who gets knocked down and always gets back up,” the three state.
“Our characters are on television,” Washington says. “But the real world?”
“The real world has Hillary Clinton.”
The endorsement shouldn’t come as a surprise as last month Hillary Clinton visited the set of Scandal.
Washington posted a photo of herself with Clinton with a the caption “#imwithher.”
And let’s not ignore the art imitates life situation going on in Rhimes's Scandal storyline. We have a former first lady running for president with the shadow of her president husband’s affair behind her. Ring a bell?
The video was directed by actor Tony Goldwyn—speak of the devil—and aired Thursday night during the TGIT line-up.
Last night Shonda Rhimes tweeted Clinton, “So proud that I am with her because she is with US. @HillaryClinton. http://hrc.io/1QN07Xs.”
To which she replied, “.@shondarhimes @tonygoldwyn @kerrywashington @violadavis @ellenpompeo: Talk about a power lineup. Thank you for being on this team! –H”
