Mona Scott Young stopped by ESSENCE Live this week and got candid. The woman behind VH1’s hit show Love & Hip Hop opened up about everything from what’s real in reality TV to her political views. When it came to her thoughts on Donald Trump, she held nothing back.

“Donald Trump’s nomination, his presence, is a major step backwards for Black women, for Black people, for all people,” she said. “He’s bigoted, he’s opinionated and I don’t think there’s any benefit at all to us having him as the leader of our country.”
Scott-Young stressed that America is facing some pretty big issues and can’t afford to be unfocused.

“Who we choose to lead this country is going to be key. We can’t afford to be distracted and I think that’s what we’re experiencing right now, a whole lot of distraction.”
