“Wake up, South Carolina!” Director Spike Lee begins his declaration of endorsement for Bernie Sanders.
“I know that you know that the system is rigged! For too long we’ve given our votes to corporate puppets … Ninety-nine percent of Americans were hurt by the Great Recession of 2008, and many are still recovering,” says Lee to South Carolina voters. “That’s why I am officially endorsing my brother, Bernie Sanders.”
In a 60 second audio commerical posted on Sanders's soundcloud, Lee gives his official support of the Vermont senator.
He praises Sanders for his Civil Rights Movement activism, education policy and fight against income inequality. Lee is not the only Black celebrity to back Sanders. Over the weekend, Danny Glover attended events in South Carolina on the candidate’s behalf.
According to CNN Politics, a CNN/ORC South Carolina poll showed Clinton with 65% support from black voters, compared to 28% for Sanders.
