This year, ESSENCE is celebrating Grammy-nominated Black women in music.

ESSENCE is celebrating 2016 Grammy-nominated Black women in music at our 7th annual Black Women in Music event.

The annual event heralds the accomplishments of both iconic and up-and-coming Black female singers. This year, we’re thrilled to recognize Grammy-nominated Black women in music. The invitation-only soiree—to be held Thursday, February 11—will include special performances by vocal powerhouses, and Grammy nominees, Andra Day and Jazmine Sullivan. Bandleader Adam Blackstone and the BBE All-Star Band will provide the music, and DJ Rashida will be on the ones and twos.

ESSENCE’s Black Women in Music Event Throughout the Years

“ESSENCE wants to celebrate all of the 2016 Grammy-nominated Black female artists with a night of mind-blowing performance featuring the soulful sounds of vocal divas Andra and Jazmine,” ESSENCE editor-in-chief Vanessa K. De Luca said. “In our February ‘Black Girls Magic’ issue, we highlight the dominance of young African-American women and how they are redefining the realms of fashion, sports, activism and more. This is definitely evident in music, as the artistry of this year’s roster of nominees—from rap, R&B, rock, gospel and more—continues to have an impact on our lives. Congratulations to all of these ladies for this year’s amazing achievements.”
