It was the cringe heard ‘round the universe.

Steve Harvey made perhaps the ultimate faux pas while hosting last night’s Miss Universe pageant when he crowned the wrong contestant.

Yes, he crowned the wrong contestant.

USA TODAY reports that Harvey announced that Miss Colombia, Ariadna Gutierrez Arevalo, had taken home the title, prompting the celebratory music, flowers… and crowning. However, only seconds later, Harvey realized his mistake.

“Okay, folks,” he said. “I have to apologize. The first runner-up is Colombia. Miss Universe 2015 is Philippines.”

A stunned Miss Philippines, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, hesitantly walks to center stage, meeting an equally stunned Miss Colombia.

“I want to apologize emphatically to Miss Philippians [sic] and Miss Columbia [sic],” he wrote on Twitter in a since-deleted tweet. “This was a terribly honest human mistake and I am so regretful.”
