Nicki Minaj is spilling the tea on her brief drama with pop singer Taylor Swift… but there isn’t much tea to spill!
Nicki appeared on Good Morning America this morning, where she revealed that she and Taylor’s beef had been squashed.
“I spoke to Taylor Swift yesterday on the phone,” she told GMA’s Lara Spencer. “She was super, super sweet. She apologized. She said, ‘You know, look, I didn’t understand the big picture of what you were saying. But now I get it.’ So we’re all good.”
The drama began shortly after the MTV Video Music Awards nominations were announced earlier this week and Nicki’s “Anaconda” was not nominated for Video of the Year. Nicki tweeted “If your video celebrates women with very slim bodies, you will be nominated for vid of the year.” Taylor misconstrued Nicki’s message, quickly firing, “I’ve done nothing but love and support you. It’s unlike you to pit women against each other. Maybe one of the men took your slot.”
Critics immediately began clapping back at Taylor, accusing her of hijacking Nicki’s meaningful conversation about cultural appropriation in the music industry. Yesterday afternoon, Taylor tweeted an apology to Nicki, which the “Anaconda” singer graciously accepted. Pair that with yesterday’s phone call, and it sounds like the hatchet is officially buried.
“It takes a big person to do what Taylor did,” Nicki said on GMA. “We spoke for a long time. We were cracking up laughing on the phone. It’s over, you guys.”
And with that, all is well in the music biz.
