15 years ago, Grammy-Award winning singer and actress Jill Scott released her debut album, “Who Is Jill Scott? Words and Sounds Vol. 1.” Now, she’s returning with fifth studio album, “Woman,” due out before the end of August.
In a new interview with our friends over at The Steve Harvey Morning Show, Jill and Steve reminisce over the importance of her double-platinum debut album, “Who is Jill Scott: The Words and Sounds Vol. 1.” The 2015 ESSENCE FEST speaker actually fought to play “Long Walk” against the wishes of his program directors at his 2000 radio gig in LA. Jill, of course, was thankful.
Four years have passed since her last studio album, “The Light of the Sun” hit stores to positive reception from fans and critics. Now, with the recent announcement of her new summer tour and her single “Fool’s Gold” making its’ way up the charts, the gorgeous mother and artist seems to be back and better than ever.
“I’m so close, I could taste it… Finally!” Scott said of her new project. “I’ve figured out the sequence, I’ve figured out the artwork and now I’m going in to mastering and it will be out this year.”
When asked why she chose to title the album, “Woman,” she simply said,”There’s a difference between the 27 year old Jill that put out her first album and this one… I’ve learned a couple of things in these last few years.” Listen to the full interview, below.
