He might be have been named one of People‘s Sexiest Men Alive last year, but that doesn’t mean Michael Strahan was immune to childhood insecurities.
The Live with Kelly & Michael host recently spoke with Anything Is Possible, a new social campaign aimed at giving kids positive role models, and revealed that he was bullied for his weight and his signature grin.
“I heard every gap tooth joke: ‘It looks like a bowling alley.’ ‘There’s a sign on your left tooth that points to your right tooth that says “Next Tooth: One Mile.”‘ ‘When I see you, I don’t know if I should kick a field goal or if I should smile,'” he said in the campaign.
His flawless response to the tormentors? “I say, ‘If I fix my smile, then I would be perfect!”
The former NFL star also said that his older brother and his friends used to call him BOB, meaning Booty on Back. But Strahan didn’t let that get him down. Their words motivated him to start working out, which inadvertently got him into football. And the rest is history.
We have a feeling that Strahan’s story isn’t unique. Whether it was height, weight or a toothy grin, we all had that one thing that we were at least a little insecure about. What did you do to overcome that insecurity? Did you embrace it, or did you do everything in your power to change it? Take our poll, and leave a comment telling us your tip on owning your insecurity.
