With her mom by her side, Holly Robinson Peete graced the ESSENCE Black Women in Hollywood red carpet and expressed sheer joy at the growing diversity of primetime television.
Admitting that she’s obsessed with Empire, Scandal and Being Mary Jane, she said that she’s thrilled to see Black women leading—and creating—shows.
“I’m thrilled about Shonda [Rhimes] and those who are behind the scenes, like Ava [DuVernay],” she said, noting that her mother moved to Beverly Hills in 1974 to be a talent manager, and she was an extreme minority. “I’m really thrilled to see these show runners and green lighters that are women that look like us.”
We are, too!
