The nominations keep rolling in. The Broadcast Film Critics Association just announced its nominees for January’s Critics Choice Awards, and both Selma and Top Five received some much-deserve recognition.
Selma, which chronicles the 1965 voting rights march from Selma, Alabama, to Montgomery, nabbed five nominations, including one for Best Picture. Lead actor David Oyelowo, who portrays Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., was nominated for Best Actor; the up-and-coming Ava DuVernay was nominated for Best Director; Common and John Legend’s anthem “Glory” was nominated for Best Song; and the entire cast was nominated for Best Acting Ensemble.
Chris Rock’s new comedy, Top Five, walked away with three nominations. Rock is up for Best Actor in a Comedy, and the film is nominated for Best Comedy. Rock’s co-star Rosario Dawson was also nominated for Best Actress in a Comedy.
Pint-sized superstar and ESSENCE covergirl Quvenzhané Wallis was nominated for Best Young Actor/Actress for her portrayal as Annie, and new mom Zoe Saldana, who starred in Guardians of the Galaxy, was nominated for Best Actress in an Action Movie.
Catch the awards on A&E on Thursday, January 15.
