As fun as the MTV VMAs were last night, Common took a second to get real. Before introducing the nominees for the best hip hop video, the rapper called for a moment of silence for Michael Brown and all of the events in Ferguson. "I want you all to take a moment of silence for Mike Brown and for peace, in this county and in the world," said Common. [HollywoodReporter]

With the U.S. Open starting today, Google decided to honor Althea Gibson in the Doodle for the day. Gibson was the first African-American to ever win titles at the U.S. Nationals and Wimbledon. After her "Anaconda" performance at the MTV VMAs, Nicki Minaj dealt with a major wardrobe malfunction. While performing "Bang Bang" with Jessie J and Ariana Grande, it was clear that Minaj's dress was not zipped up in the front, at all. But she played it off well, by sensually holding it together while she performed her part. [People]

Even if you didn't watch the VMA's, you probably already know that the Carter family stole the show. Aside from Beyonce's 15-minute performance, Blue Ivy was the second star. As Momma Bey did her thing up on the stage, Blue couldn't help but to dance along. And when "***Flawless" came on, we all knew it was her favorite song. Someone caught the little one showing her skills, and we just can't stop watching it. (P.s. look at Jay's face) Can you? [Gawker]
