Shepherd also surprised viewers by taking the headlines into her own hands and joking about her divorce, "When I started The View seven years ago, my [son] Jeffrey was 2 years old, and I was going through a very public divorce [from Jeff Tarpley]. It's a good thing Barbara Walters and [producer] Bill Geddie were better at picking co-hosts than I was at choosing my husbands!"
